Changing surname on baptism certificate?

Just wondering if the above is possible?

DD was registered with her father's surname when she was a week old. He became abusive towards us and left. DD hasn't seen him since she was 2 weeks old.

She was christened at 10 months old. Her father's surname - and her surname at the time - is on the baptism certificate.

I changed her name by deed poll when she was 11 months old. No consent from her father as I couldn't locate him. I had sufficient proof for the Deed Poll people that I had spent a lot of time and effort trying to track him down, and dd's surname was allowed to be changed.

So since she was 11 months old, dd has had my surname. It is used by everyone - Gp, hospital, dentist, library, nursery, school etc etc.

I would really like dd's baptism certificate to have her current surname on it. When she makes her first communion in a few years, her class will be doing a project on baptism for which they'll have to take in their certificate and discuss it. I think my dd will be upset to present her baptism certificate with a strange surname on it.

And at the communion service, would the priest call her by the name on her certificate, or by her current name?

He visits the school regularly and always says hello to dd after Sunday service, but I've only ever heard him use her first name.

Is it possible to request a second baptism certificate; one which has her current name on it?

The current certificate I have is the third draft, as I had to keep sending it back to the chapel because the priest misspelled the godparents' names. So i know there's no strict rule that they cannot be redone.

Sorry for the ramble, just wanted to know where I stand and what I can expect.

Oh bum Sad

When she makes her first communion, will the priest refer to her/call her forward using her current name or the name put on her baptism certificate?

Poor girl's going to be so confused.

My daughter made hers this year - the kids were called out by their every day name ie Charlie instead of Charles etc. So the priest should use her usual surname, the one the school does.

To be very honest, I would approach the priest, talk to them about it and see what can be done re the baptism certificate. I know baptism certificates can be reissued, I'm not sure if an amendment can be notated on the original entry and then a subsequent certificate be issued - I would push the priest and talk to the school about it.

But regardless of the actual certificate your child should be called up with the name they're known as.

Good luck.

Not sure this helps but if you change your religion or become an atheist you can have an amendment put in the register.

Baptism certificates seem to come in and out of fashion, I remember an elderly aunt being very concerned that one of my cousins only got the candle box with the details on and no certificate.

You can buy or make your own, although I would speak to the priest if you want to do this.

Just one point, some of my cousins are adopted, their adoptive parents had not told them but the local priest said he would not let the older girl make her first communion unless she had been told. I know priests are not so draconian now but at 7 wouldn't she be old enough to know about her name change? She will have to know at some time.

We never got ours, the parish we were baptized in kept onto the baptism lines, we got a copy and gave it to the school when we started. My daughter didn't see or use her baptism lines for her Communion, the school had them. I didn't see my own until I requested them to get married.

For their First Communion "project" they completed a wee book and brought in some photos of their baptism, and the candle which 70% of us had misplaced. Cue a mad dash to the holy shop.

Yes you can change a name on a baptism certificate through a renewal of baptism and renaming ceremony in the Universal life church. we do them with transgender renaming and renewal of baptism ceremonies

The mainstream denominations don't do 'renaming' ceremonies or renewal of vows in that sense though. I would think its perfectly possible for a priest to amend the certificate/ records.
