I love Kutless, Tim Hughes and have some Songs 4 Worship CDs.

What else would I like?

What do you listen to?

This is a great list - thanks OP for asking the question in the first place!

I've got Spotify and I'm always out to discover more Christian bands.

My favourite bands are Delirious? (yes, still), Casting Crowns, Third Day (both of these are fairly rocky), and Hillsong stuff.

Solo singers include Tim Hughes, who you've got, Stuart Townend, Marc James (American man), Rachael Lampa.

You can sometimes find Fresh Praise CDs in Christian bookshops which are a variety of songs and singers/bands usually at a low price.

I'm sure I can think of a few more...

(Marks place)

Loved listening to a Matter Redman thing dh did on spotify tonight. Also like 10,000 reasons (or raisins, as it's known here!).

I also like the Getty's music. There is a higher throne is very beautiful.

Love the recommendations!

oh and also 'Promise Keepers' (love their version of 'a mighty fortress'

Gunznroses Sun 11-Aug-13 21:37:59

OP try Petra, I used to really like them but haven't heard anything of theirs for years its in the same genre of Kutless, I did a very edgy version on 'Awesome God'

Gunznroses Sun 11-Aug-13 21:34:59

ooh I love Kutless too! (fav - take me into the Holy of Holies), love Robin mark (fav-when its all been said and done), Hillsong, Matt Redman, Avalon and GLAD.

what about The Gentlemen, Phillipa Hanna, Pete James, Gareth Robinson (get his best of - is a contemporary of Tim Hughes) [the last 2 have both been worship leaders at our church, so I am biased, but they are great - Madhair will agree with me re Pete if not Gareth!]

suchawimp Sat 20-Jul-13 16:13:54

I like The Gaithers, The Farm Girls, Guy Penrod, and The Peasall Sisters.

Mumford and Sons are not a Christian band overtly, but their lead singer is from a Christian background and seems to have a faith - many of the lyrics point to that <'awake my soul, for we were made to meet our maker' and 'raise my hands, paint my spirit gold'> etc etc - lovely stuff. Marcus Mumford's parents are pastors in the Vineyard movement. Either way, they're genius smile

Raindrops0nRoses Tue 09-Jul-13 19:40:03

No Mumford isn't a Christian band but Rend Collective sound similar to them with a Christian message. My favourite is their version of Be Thou My Vision

ZingWidge Tue 09-Jul-13 19:36:03

is Mumford a Christian band?

InMySpareTime Tue 09-Jul-13 19:33:24

Casting Crowns "until the whole world hears"

madhairday Tue 09-Jul-13 19:30:55

Raindrops I was going to say Rend Collective, I love their stuff especially the new album. I'm into Mumford and Sons so it follows - also like David Crowder Band who are similar, more indie in style with folksy and old southern gospel stuff, it's really fabulous and worth a listen to - try their newer album Give us rest

I like Gungor, Starfield, Casting Crowns, Switchfoot (a bit more rocky in feel with country style riffs), some Matt Redman/Chris Tomlin/Hughes et al, though find all that gets a bit samey (apart from the most excellent 10,000 Reasons of course!)

I like Owl City for a different more techno sound, lyrics not overtly Christian but the band members are and there are some gems in there.

Would second Hillsong Utd 'Zion' - was getting a bit bored of the whole Hillsong sound, but this is a welcome departure - really refreshing with great lyrics and some genius eighties-esque sounds. 'A million suns' is particularly memorable.

I like Newsboys and YFriday for a more mainstream sound.

Sure I will think of some more....if I could choose one to go for, I'd say the David Crowder one.

Get hillsong zion its amazing especially the song oceans x

Raindrops0nRoses Tue 09-Jul-13 09:14:00

Unfortunately UCB isn't available on normal FM radios, but it is on DAB digital radio. There are a few different stations - I listen to UCB UK but there is also a gospel station and an 'inspirational' station. Or you can listen online at, or it's on sky and virgin media. There is also a smartphone app.

ZingWidge Tue 09-Jul-13 08:59:51

thanks for your replies!
findingme I love loads of different ones (just namechanged!), I fast ones, ballad types, gospel things - all good.
I like trad. hymns too.

even kids' Bible songs! grin

raindrops - how do I find UCB? what frequency etc?

I have very sensitive ears (hyperacusis), so I don't ever listen to the radio, as unless it's tuned very well I just can't bear the electrical noise of it sad

but I would love to give UCB a go! maybe I can listen to it through my Smartphone?
I did listen to either that station or something similar in someone else' car and the chat bit was brilliant!

how do I find Christian radio stations?( this is exciting!)
