Did anyone watch the first part of this last night. I did and I LOVED it. It was made by the same people that made The Passion a couple of years ago and it has a lot of the same feel as that one. Can't wait until tonight for the next part

You should be able to catch it on iplayer. Part 2 is at 7pm tonight

I really liked it too although it was slightly ruined by the running commenray from my 4 year old telling me who everyone was and what they did etc (shows he listened at school, although he thinks it was a long, long time ago but not more than 100 years!).

My only complaint is that I would have liked to see it in hour long episodes not 1/2 hour!

I really enjoyed it, as did 3yr old dd. I thought it was well done but yes think a longer episode each night would work better.

Casting very good so far but wasn't sure about Elizabeth. Should have been older surely? Only a minor thing.

I liked the humanity in it.

Thanks for reminding me about this - I'll be watching it on iplayer.

BTW did anyone hear the wonderful programme "Something Understood"on Sunday on Radio 4. It's all about traditional nativity stories. It's also available on the iplayer.....

The music chosen in the programme was wonderful particularly the beautiful song "Mary, did you know?"

It was fab! Poor Joseph sad

madangelhaironchristmasday Wed 22-Dec-10 17:58:30

I loved it and 10 yr old dd really enjoyed it too, it made her think about what Joseph must have felt like and led to a long discussion about what unfaithfulness meant etc, quite good. I thought it was well done and a good different take. I did read on fb that some Christians have complained, but can't imagine what about tbh. Looking forward to tonights installment.

Elizabeth's plucked eyebrows annoyed me.

SilveryMoon Wed 22-Dec-10 18:48:56

I'm really enjoying this too. Just waiting for tonights to start.

I'm watching 'miranda' then just about to catch up on THe Nativity.. It'll be interesting as this is the first year I have been a Christian.

TheYuleLogLady Wed 22-Dec-10 18:53:29

i hate to ask but what happened last night. i mean - i know what happened but what happened in the episode? iyswim?

SauvignonBlanche Wed 22-Dec-10 18:53:30

Is it repeated?

lucysnowe Wed 22-Dec-10 19:13:24

Really enjoyed it, and usually I don't like this kind of thing, I find the reverence a bit cringeworthy (and I am a Christian). Loved the wise men and Gabriel. Looking forward to the ending grin

I think it's excellent. Thank God for iPlayer.... you'll find it there SauvignonB.

Quick summary of tonight's episode... look away now if you're catching up on the IPlayer.....

Joseph is appalled and shocked that Mary is up the duff and God only knows who the father is..wink
Mary gets attacked in town for being an unmarried mother so her parents persuade Joseph to take her to Bethlehem for her own safety.
Thomas the shepherd continues to have a crisis of faith as his wife is still ill.
The Maji meet up with Herod's men who are less than friendly so they tell them they're going back to Babylonia - but then they head off to Bethlehem under the cover of night on white camels. Not a good disguise me thinks. confused
The episode ends with Joseph having a dream and Mary tries to explain it to him.

I"m hoping for a happy ending....

You think, WW? grin

I catched up with all three episodes last night and also loved it. It's good to have the story made so human. When you know a story backwards and inside out you sometimes need a jolt to get you to look at it again properly.

Was anyone else watching the scene with the Magi and Herod's envoy, whilst clutching a cushion and wailing 'Think of a better story than that! Please! He's going to kill all the babies!!! GO HOME!!!' sad
Or was it just me? blush

It's been fab

I'm not so patiently waiting <big kid emoticon> for tonight's episode, so we can see how things turn out in the end (It's not like I don't know the story now is it...? grin)

expatinscotland Thu 23-Dec-10 19:12:15

If Mary had no Original Sin, does this not mean she did not suffer any pain in labour?

SilveryMoon Thu 23-Dec-10 19:12:59

well, she doesn't look too happy now........

SilveryMoon Thu 23-Dec-10 19:13:16

oooh or sound it!

BetsyBoop Thu 23-Dec-10 19:45:42

please tell me I'm not the only one with a tear in her eye when Joseph came & held her hand blush <big softie emoticon>

gingercurl Thu 23-Dec-10 20:47:56

I did too smileblush. I must be getting middle aged and soppy.

Joolyjoolyjoo Thu 23-Dec-10 20:48:28

BetsyBoop Thu 23-Dec-10 21:26:32
