Cats and real christmas trees..do they get along??

I have 2 cats aged 2...and have always had an artificial Christmas tree..and they do tend to attack every now and again at Christmas time.

This year i would like to get a real tree....but wonder if the cats would be more attracted to it?? and also if they are safe for cats to be around because of the needles etc??

Thanks

Have never had a problem with the (real) tree itself, but do make sure they don't try to eat the tinsel- can be deadly

If they were tiny kittens they might try to climb it but should be ok now - I would just hang any breakable baubles a bit higher up in case they knock them off

I think that you should be OK with a real tree, because they are quite prickly. However, I'd make sure it was in a heavy pot with a lot of ballast to prevent it over-balancing if they do have a go at climbing! For a cut tree, I used to saw off a couple of inches from the trunk, and stand it in a plastic bin full of gravel. It can be watered, which also adds to the weight. I always found it stable, but never had a real tree of more than 5 feet. My cats at that time were more inclined to take the odd bauble off to play with, so no glass in case they break.

Good point about the tinsel from LRC. also make sure fairylights are switched off and unplugged overnight and when you're not home, especially important where you have a tree in water.

My cat has climbed our artificial tree every year from kittenhood, now that she's 3.8 yrs and nearly 4kgs in weight I hope she'll stick to ferreting about under the tree skirt instead!

We get a real tree each year and Mog loves it. She abandons her normal sleeping place and curls up under the tree, usually before we've even had time to decorate it!!!!! Never had any problems with her attacking or climbing it, but she's not a particually playful cat.

trres are ok

but dont put tinsel on the tree

ats can eat and can get entwined in their tummy's

or sometimes it poos it out and you can see tinsel coming out of cats bum

my cat has never gone for the tree (real). It bats about a bauble occasionally, and flees about the angel hair. My cat is not the brightest.

I didn't realise tinsel was such a hazard.

Cat will adopt an Angel complex and it's sole aim will be to get to the top mauling the fairies and elves in the process.

As opposed to...PseudoClive?

Do you want me to show you that unique birthmark under my pectoral fin, that only Clive has?

Sadly you can't see it cos the water is so dirty .
