Think I might be allergic to our dog!

We got a yellow lab pup in June. I am prone to asthma and hayfever and I know for sure I am allergic to cats.

Have noticed this week that if I am in the house much my chest starts to get a bit tight and I keep coughing. First noticed last Friday so vacummed thoroughly and it was better. House was vacummed again on Monday and Wednesday and then yesterday I noticed I was feeling a bit 'chesty' again so I vacummed. Was chesty again this morning so DH vacummed while I was out at supermarket although in his words he 'just got the thick off".

Dog does seem to be moulting hugely at the moment and a friend said she has noticed same with her lab and it might be to do with weather or the fact that ours could be losing her puppy coat.

Any thoughts?

Am worried that this will get worse obv.

She was brushed last weekend and DH is brushing her now. I am about to vacuum again!

Wondering if I vacuum every day and keep her outside for most of the day I can limit it. But it gets very cold here in winter so I can't leave her outside all the time.

This is dog-shed season, I'm afraid - they're casting the summer coat and growing a thicker winter coat. The good news is that it'll stop shedding so much soon, but it'll all start up again in spring.

can you really vacuum the dog?! That's a great idea.

Yes, you can vacuum a dog, but he might not like it, so try and get him to associate the vacuum with Good Stuff. And, er, use the hose.

Take a look at these - may be helpful to remove more hair than the average brush and help you out.
www.furminator.com/

If you google them various places online selling them.

Thanks all. I did buy a Miele Cat and Dog vacum cleaner and comment on a thread that I couldn't get the dog to stay still to be vacuumed but I was only joking!

Went to dinner with some friends last night and one who has dogs recommended the furminator which I am going to buy.

Another guest at the dinner works for Astra Zeneca with their asthma drugs and he recommended I see a specialist to see if it is really the dog and not just the weather and to get the right combo of drugs in case it gets worse. I have Ventolin but it is past it's use buy date!

DH is sceptical as he reckons it wont't have suddenly come on. He got shouted at.
