Cat really missing 1st kitten of litter to go, don't know what to do!!

So fab cat Bo had 5 kittens, has looked after them really well and they're 9 and a half weeks and ( we thought) fully weaned and definitely litter trained.

We're keeping one girl and the rest (2 boys and 2 girls) all have homes lined up in next couple of weeks.

Hadn't seen them feed for a few days and we'd made an arrangement with a friend for them to get 1st boy, 1st of litter by coincidence, today. She did favour the boys but they are also much friendlier and sociable so we thought ok from kitten point of view.

BUT last night she cried looking for him and fed the other kittens.

Now tonight she's making the noise she makes when rallying them tho the remaining ones there and she has taken to going around with toy they all play with in her mouth.

Just looking for a bit of advice/reassurance. Did everything with vet's ok but worried how the rest of the separation will affect her.

Any ideas?

I wouldn't let them go yet tbh.

she will be fine

my cat has had 2 of her 9 week old babies go to a new home and although she looked for them, after a day or so she is content to just look after the 2 remaining babies.

My mummy cat meows all the time - babies or no babies so it is a noise we are all used to! She isn't impressed if she can't see the 2 reamining babies though.

Our cat was like this whenever a kitten went. It was pretty horrible, but she seemed OK after a few days and I think having one kitten to keep helped - she ended up carrying on nursing that one for 6 months!!

shouldnt be separated really until 12 weeks!! its sad and Im sure upsetting for you all especially the mum, but it will be okay, its done now and atleast you are letting her keep one which is what we did and its nice to see them together.
Dont beat yourself up about it

Thanks. Opinion very divided about when to separate kittens from mum. Our vet happy for us to give them away at 8 weeks.

She is a lot better now but still dreading the other 3 going in 2 weeks time.

Have loved the experience but won't be doing this again!

We kept both surviving kittens and mummy cat hates them now - won't tolerate them anywhere near her. Had homes lined up for them too, but just couldnt bear to part with them when it came to it.

All 3 been spayed now - definitely couldn't go through all of that again [smile.

Just an update really.

All kittens gone to lovely homes.

Kept one and mum had op. Mum still loving remaining kitten. And feeding her.

Just after last post cat went into heat and that seemed to make her better received to kittens leaving.

So all good and sorry for upsetting anyone!
