Pets

help....cat keeps attacking my puppy

what do I do?

We have had the cat for over 2 years but the puppy only came 6 months ago.

The cat hates the puppy and whenever the cat sees the puppy, she attacks her. The poor puppy is petrified of the cat and we have to keep shutting one or the other out. The other cats are fine with the puppy (although she chases them!)

This isn't too bad as the weather is ok but what do I do once the weather gets bad and I can't put one of them out?

The puppy is the nicest, most trusting border collie I have ever come across and it breaks my heart that the cat refuses to accept her into our family.

I bought a feliway diffuser as i thought (and hoped) that may work but it hasn't.

Both pets have cost quite alot of money - the cat about £500 and the puppy £1000 so just giving them away isn't an option and I doubt if I could sell them either (and I don't really want to either IYKWIM).

any ideas would be fantastic

thank you

We had this with my cat and our dog it sounds like as your puppy is still chasing the other cats she is just trying to show him who is boss as he will need to learn when he is bigger he cant attack the other cats. Once he accepts his place things will settle back down but the cat is only attacking him as it is feeling threatned as the dog is the predator here.

I hope it works out well for you and they accept one another sorry I am late answering I hope you still check this thread.

I would just let them get on woth it tbh. Is this particular cat the most dominant?

I rehomed the puppy yesterday

I have never cried so much.... I am all swollen faced and puffy today and still the tears won't stop

My head is telling me that I have done the right thing by the puppy. Her new family are the most lovely people ever and I know she is going to be much loved.

I guess it will just take a bit of time for my heart to realise that I have done the right thing.
