on monday he ate a half of a 140g bar of chocolate. he has had diarrohea since, it shows no sign of letting up and he doesnt seem particularly ill (a bit subdued) but am now a bit worried. should i take him to the vets or continue giving him plenty of water etc?

How old is the dog? I would phone the vets and ask.

Oh i thought you realised, i ask how old as it can kill puppies, older dogs can usually cope with it a bit better. Hope the dog is okay.

my puppy ate a packet of thorntons chocolate caramel shortbread when he war about 12 weeks old and weighed about 5lb.

Aparently dark chocolate is worse for dogs as it has a higher cocoa content than milk.

I took him the vet because he was up all night very hyper and his abdominum was vert hard.

Apparently he had trapped wind and it cost me £38 for Buscopan.

The vet said to me if they have chocolate poisoning it happens very quickly and there organs begin to shut down.

Sounds like your dog needs something for the diarrohea though.
