I'm not sure about French dogs but Dutch dogs say blaf blaf. Dutch cockerels say koook-e-le-kook, at least their cats make a normal sound grin

FabBakerGirlIsBack Fri 07-Aug-09 20:14:05

8 posts on foreign noises of animals.

grin

You'd think we'd have better things do do on a friday night hmm

I've just been reliably infomed that cockrels say koook-e-le-kooo not koook-e-le-kook. Oh the shame.

Dutch pigs say knor knor WTF?

juanitad Fri 07-Aug-09 21:00:38

Spanish dogs say guau guau, pronounced wow wow.

Wow!

Takver Fri 07-Aug-09 21:02:22

Welsh ducks say cwac cwac I believe (will go & poke a duck to check if you like)

MmeLindt Fri 07-Aug-09 21:03:52

MarmadukeScarlet Fri 07-Aug-09 21:05:29

I was going to post this following a discussion today with my Au Pair.

German dogs say vou vou

Czech dogs say uff uff

She thinks German's 'woof' is funny (she is from Cz) but I pointed out that sometimes we say bow wow over here.

saintlydamemrsturnip Fri 07-Aug-09 21:05:38

MarmadukeScarlet Fri 07-Aug-09 21:06:14

MmeLindt Fri 07-Aug-09 21:09:13

German donkeys say iaah

German cats say miau

and the cows say muuuuh

Marmaduke
My DC were born in Germany, so I do know my animals. All those mother & toddler groups have given me lots of useless information

MarmadukeScarlet Fri 07-Aug-09 21:12:27

grin My excuse is that I was being spoken to, in canine german, by a non native with a strong czech accent.

What is up with those German donkeys? However I say that I cannot make a proper donkey noise.

norktasticninja Fri 07-Aug-09 21:24:41

Ok, I'm in trouble about the cockerel now. DP is ashamed wink It's actually kukelekuu but it does sound like my phonetic version...

Apparently:

Cows say Boe
Chickens tok tok tok
Cows boe
Donkeys ia
Ducks kwak
Pigs knor knor
Birds tjilp
Mice piep
Cat:s mjauw
Dogs waf, woef and blaf blaf
Frogs kwaak

Oh well at least my pig was right!

LongtimeinBrussels Fri 07-Aug-09 21:48:40

There's a table here.

Bella21 Fri 07-Aug-09 21:54:09

OMG. I thought I needed to get out more.

I know Brussels ain't the most exciting place in the world, but couldn't you find anything else to do? grin

<hastily copies and pastes table for behaviour studies>

domesticslattern Fri 07-Aug-09 22:04:21

LongtimeinBrussels, you have provided a full evening of entertainment in the slattern household! Thank you!

LongtimeinBrussels Sat 08-Aug-09 01:04:45

grin Exciting it certainly isn't! Only took me a couple of seconds to google it though to be honest and saved me the bother of typing out the French ones I know!!

MmeLindt Sat 08-Aug-09 08:53:44

I don't know what is worse.

Finding the time to do the website and put the animal sounds on there.

Or putting his real name on.

Derek, you sound like a really interesting guy

Thanks for that, Longtime.

LongtimeinBrussels Sat 08-Aug-09 09:46:08

Glad to be of assistance grin. I do think though that we have a debt of gratitude not only to Derek but also to FabBakerGirlIsBack for starting this thread! wink
