By Some Miracle Does Anyone Live On Large Land And Want A Companion???

My dogs keep fighting
Just got back from the vets and Jessie has 3 puncture wounds even though it was her that started it

Jessie is a springer X Satffie and nearly 5. She gets on with all people and children and is super obedient but she doesn't really get on with other dogs.
Up until today she was fine with our other dog but I'm a wreck

I can't take her to a kennels it would kill me but I am struggling to cope.

I need a miracle, someone with no other dogs and land for her to excersise and must have the time to give her the attention she deserves.

I know its a long shot but worth trying.....

I know it's probably a really irritating question, but have you had a behaviourist work on your dogs?

They can make a huge difference very quickly.

If you've already gone down this road, sorry for throwing in a red herring.

Yes we have, £100 each time and also went to classes. It does work but with 5 children and a busy household I am struggling to give her the attention she needs.
Obedience wise she is fantastic but seems incredibley bored and ideally needs hours of excersise rather than the 30 minutes twice a day that we manage.

You'll find it very hard to rehome her if she is aggressive with other dogs, tbh.

I know that Bella.........
Do you suggest I have her put down instead
Or maybe just carry on like this with her being unhappy??

Anyone who has helpful posts?

I was trying to be helpful and point out that rehoming may not be a viable option.

Do you know any local farms that might have space for a dog, my fil was a big softy and always took on dogs at his farm/ stables....if he still had it i could help you. Worth a look...also try phoning the local kennels, some times they might have contacts/ customers who are looking for another pet. I have my name down with our local kennels for another dog, might work for you

Good luck x

Most rehoming sites I've looked at state what sort of home a dog needs (other dogs or not, children or not etc) & how much in the way of exercise. It might be an idea to approach one?

Sounds as if Jessie would be a great dog for someone who was not swamped in kids & had lots of time & no other pets

Apology accepted gladly

If I may just give you some advice:

Don't be too hasty. Don't do anything as a knee jerk reaction after today. Let the dust settle.

Was there a particular trigger to the fight today? Can that situation be avoided?

And what I said earlier, I only said because I've been in your position, and it was fecking hard, so I do empathise.

Have a glass of wine (or three), sleep on it and see how things look tomorrow.

All the best x

Having a beer

I have calmed down a bit and the girls are now cuddling in bed!!

Its the tip of the iceberg really as we have had problems with her when on walks.

I have found a canine communication class nearby so not giving up yet......

She is muzzled when out but sometimes gets them off, could you give me a link to the made to measure ones?

Have you tried both types of muzzle, magnolia? There are the black nylon fabric ones and the plastic cage type ones? Might be worth a look if you can't find the made to measure type.

Hope it's all going better for you anyway

Owning a springer, who is adorable but a lot of work I would imagine that a springer staffie combination is quite a nightmare.

If he got on with other dogs I would consider taking him as it may be the lack of exercise. Our springer has a few hours a day.

could you hire a dog walker - yes will end up expsense but got to be better than getting rid of her?

I'm home all day so a dog walker is not needed, the problem is I can't let her have a run as she is awful with other dogs.... The miracle would be someone who had land for her to run on without the risk of other dogs.

Bella, have tried 3 types of muzzle.

I am actually now considering re homing my friendly staffie so I have more time to work with Jessie and less stress of dog arguements in the house.
