I am just wondering whether to buy my cat a new bed

I am washing the inner pad bit of her bed and will wash the main bit tomorrow when she can sleep on the sofa and it has all day to dry.

She probably doesn't need another bed but parts of it look a bit worn and she has had it about 4 years.

Will she be stressed if I get a new bed? It won't smell right will it? Having said that when it was new she was fine with it after a couple of days but she has an illness which means no stress for her.

What do you MN cat experts think?

Your cat actually sleeps in a cat bed? Ass opposed to the sofa/your bed/anywhere that is inconvenient for you?

She won't notice it looks at all worn, she'll just think of it as comfortable. I wouldn't rush to change it really. But then if she got used to this one quick I'm sure she won't mind a new one - if you do get a new one how about for the first few days you put the current inner pad in the new one so it will smell familiar?

TA our cat sleeps in his bed. At night anyway, when he only has access to the kitchen/diner and outside. It's the only soft, fluffy, comfy, warm etc thing in there. I think he's out most of the night actually though.

During the day he sleeps on his fave pink fleece blanket on my bed, or if I forget to lay it out, he sleeps on dd's bed, never ds's bed for some reaon.
Or the playroom sofa...

As for the OP, I'd leave the old bed unless it's really tatty and manky. And put the old pad inside for a few days like Clairedeloon said.

She sleeps in her bed at night. All day she sleeps on the sofa (in my corner so every night I have to move her and some nights she settles back without hissing at me) and sometimes on one of the kitchen chairs.

I think I will wait considering DS2 needs new shoes. I know FBCat has behaved better than FBBoy but I really ought to put the human kids first.

I'd just leave a basket of clean and dry washing around.
That's my cats' choice of sleeping surface.
