Well after a sleepless night, she's still not had them!! This morning she has been pacing, digging so much, and whinig which is unlike her cause she's a very quiet dog normally. Think things could be happening

My mum used to have a quiet small office room next to the kitchen but away from the hustle and bustle of the house and especially away from other dogs where she puts bitches giving birth. She used to put their basket in but also covered the floor with lots of newspaper and let the dog do what it wanted in terms of tearing up the paper, making a bed, whatever.

She had a child safety gate to put on the office door so she could have a quick look in but not actually go in. As kids we were given stict instructions not to bother the dog. Usually best if just one person interacts with the dog during this process - much like a midwife really.

Do check to see if the colostrum is appearing at the teat yet and let nature take its course.

Best of luck and let us know what happens. It is exciting though.

Thanks EvenBetaDad. At the moment she in a quiet corner of our kitchen (unfortunatly we dont have another room) I'm going to box her in there just for the breakfast period so the kids dont bother her. Thankfully my older 2 sort of understand and are keeping well out of the way. Its my 2y old ds i'm worried about.
She does have colostrum which we noticed late last night. Bless her she was so unsettled last night, but now all she seems to be doing is shivering and whining. No grey water sack yet though.
Will keep you informed

northernmonkey - yes do keep the children away especially the 2yr old. Immediately after birth bitches can sometimes be quiet aggressive - its just natural protectiveness.

Good idea to box her in and give her private space. Sounds close.

Do they have MN birth threads?

I really ought to wander off of pets someday!

Just thought i'd give an update. Things have been quiet all day. She's just shredded her bed to bits and been panting and sleeping most of the day. Just let her out 10 mins ago to relieve herself, to see a lovely string of mucus. I panicked thought a few choice words and got her in the house quick. She's now laid at my feet shivering bless her. Looks like we're getting much closer now
