How do I get rid of fleas? They’re driving me crazy:(

I have been treating my dog for fleas by giving him a “spot on“ treatment every month. It hasn’t worked because he and our house is riddled with them and nothing I do works. I launder everything I can think of every other day including my dogs bed and toys, our bedding, throws. I also Hoover cracks, bedding, furniture and carpets every other day and I have changed the flea treatment to the best name brand on the market and they still haven’t gone. I comb about 10 adult fleas out of my poor dog every day and I am constantly getting bitten. They don’t seem to bother my other half so he doesn’t see the big deal but it’s all driving me nuts. Has anyone found a brand or product or system that actually works to remove fleas? Thanks I’m advance :?

The fleas are still somewhere in the house. You need to flea bomb the hell out of it. I use the Johnson and Johnson flea bombs which are about £10 for 2 canisters. Let off in the room, close the door and leave for 2 hours then go in and open the windows and give a hoover. You'll need to do it in each room.
Maybe go to the vets for a super strength flea treatment for pooch too.

Fleas become resistant if you continue to use the same product over a long period - you need to go to the vet and ask their advice. And yes, another pp is right, you will need to treat the house too.

Second the flea bomb advice, it’s a nightmare but you need to do every room. Every soft furnishing is a nice home for them. We threw away the rugs, bombed the house and hoovered over and over.

You’ll get there but it’s bloody awful!

We've had similar problems with our cats and have just used Comfortis tablets from our vet - they are very expensive but have worked to kill the fleas.

Sad thing about flea bombs is that they also kill everything else eg spiders, over wintering ladybirds, woodlice etc

2 cans of indorex from amazon. Hoover the house then spray it everywhere including all the nooks and crannies. Leave for specified time and hoover again. Keep hoovering every day as it awakens the fleas which the indorex will then kill. Indorex should last a year once sprayed.

Use flea traps to see if you still have a problem (bowl of water with a drop of washing up liquid and a desk lamp shining on it)

Contact the vet and ask for the spray for your house and something better for your pet. We had the same issue and were told that a lot of fleas have become immune to popular brand name spot ons. The stronger stuff from the vet did the trick! Ensure you boil wash any bedding and soft furnishing on a 60 and empty the hoover bag outside as the eggs can live in it and hatch. You have to really keep on top of it for at least 3 months as that's the length of their life cycle. It's a real faff but it got rid of them in the end

Indorex

We had this. Nexgard Spectra for the dog (it's a chewable tablet rather than a spot on) and indoorex for the house sorted it eventually (I think I indoorexed three times in the end).

We used the spray mentioned above, flea treatment and continued combing of pets (they only die if they bite the pet) but we also got a flea lamp which meant we could monitor how many fleas were still in each room.

I bought a product called protector c off Amazon. I flea treated the cats with an instant killer first. If you go on amazing and look for Cap star, its similar to that but in a pink box. Kills everything on the cat effective in 30 minutes. Can be used along side monthly treatments. So cap star tablet today, spray house today, carpets, couch, even laminate. Then monthly drop on neck. Tomorrow, another cap star. let the pet walk about the house, anything alive will jump on him and die. the cap star type tablet is effective for 24 hours. Read instructions obviously, so you don't give too many for size of pet. Hoover in morning, afternoon and again at night. I did this for 2 days and sprayed house twice, (day 1 and day 3) Tip couch up and spray underneath into any crooks and crannies. Protector C doesn't smell, and it doesn't mark or leave residue.

If you were buying over the counter stuff then it's useless. You need a vet strength flea treatment and something like Indorex for the house

Comfortis tablets are amazing. Expensive, but one your pet has had one just make sure they go round the whole house and as the fleas jump on and bite you can see them getting paralysed and dropping off. Fascinating! Then I just vacuumed regularly and washed bedding/cushions.

Thank you all so much for your help and advice. I’ve placed an order on amazon for a few things so fingers crossed this will eventually work:(
