yes probably

it's quite reported that when a cat dies the neighbouring cats suddenly appear en masse but usually in the garden. Our last cat dissappeared for 24 hours, he did come back but wouldn't eat so had him put down (he had a tumour in his stomache and was 14). It was awful and I still miss him very much but I'm glad he came back so there was no uncertainty about it IYSWIM.

No answers I@m afraid, but just wanted to give my sympathies if the cat has indeed gone off to die, and to express my hope that he will turn up wondering what all the fuss is. Let us know!

it might be that your kitty cat has wondered off because he is feeling poorly. I would be inclined to ask the local neighbours to check their garages and sheds before they lock up as they often go there and get locked in.

Could be that the strange cat is new to the area and trying to throw his weight about (water pistol for that one methinks) and that could have been the yowling that you heard, cat fights are fantastically noisy.

Regards his thinness - it could be a list of things, old age being most likely. But i would be inclined to get his kidneys checked out (especially if his coat has started to have bad fur days and look greasy and spikey) and check his thyroid function too. Also, diabetes is common in cats.

Get shot of the interloper though, he may be the reason your cat hasnt come home. I'm srure he will strut in later

Maybe he feels to weak to see off a new cat on the block so has buggered off in the hope the new cat will not be there when he gets back.
I hope so xxxx

Have some extra-nice times with him that you can think back on when his time does finally come. When my last dog died I managed to generate a story in my head that I hadn't been kind enough to him while he was ill. Some quality time now might help to stave off such thoughts later.
