My pup is fearless but will sprint out the kitchen if a put fairy liquid in the sink. He’s never been bathed in it or hurt by anything. He’s also terrified of the hoover

Not my dog but some years back stayed at a friends house whilst they were away. There was a thunderstorm and i ended up pinned to the sofa for 2 hours by a terrified ridgeback who climbed on top of me shaking . Didn’t have the heart to move her.

Mine hated if we had patio doors open in summer. If a sudden gust of wind slammed an internal door shut it would terrify him. As he got older he would sneak out, tail down and sneak through the hedge into next doors garden and refuse to come back.

One day he did this, and the neighbours were out. I could see him, sunning himself all relaxed and ignoring my pleas to come back. I ended up sneaking breaking into next doors garden to retrieve him Shock

I slipped on a wet patch and fell in the kitchen. Dog was in the kitchen watching my every move (might be a scrap dropped, you know). Scared little dog sprinted into the living room and did a flying leap into DH's lap. Thankfully I didn't need said dog to rescue me.

If spooked (and I'm nearby) one of my cats curls up on me and burys his head into the crook of an arm or lap. This is also his strategy for dealing with minor annoyances such as tick removal or tree sap being cut out of his fur.
