dd put George, our hamster, in his plastic ball and I told her I'd put him back in his cage after a bit. dd went out to camp in the garden and I completely forgot about poor george. Came in about 45 mins later and he was at the bottom of the stairs, still in his ball.
He seemed fine and was moving about normally (if a little nervously) in his cage when I put him back in.
Should i bring him to the vet?

See how he is in the morning, check him before the kids do in case news isn't good.

no, i stood on mine and she survived
there's nothing much they can do with small animals like hamsters, he'll either be ok or not, but i'd say he's fine

A mouse can jump that distance down in one go and be fine, so the little chap will probably be fine.

DrunkenS I was wondering how much I'd have to read about Harry potter to see if it mentioned hamsters falling down stairs.

I still haven't totally warmed to the little hairball. He's just too damn skittish for me to feel all warm and fuzzy towards him. Dd loves him though so hopefully he'll be ok.

mine did that when i was a teen.
once theball started bouncing and rolling he sort of, stuck to one side of with the momentum, iyswim, so wasnt really hurt, just a bit shocked, then carried on as normal after about 5 seconds!

Hamsters have quite a bit of body fat, so might only be a bit bruised and shaken. If worried see the vet.

Well, this morning he seemed ok but holding a front paw a little higher than the other. Maybe he's just trying to make me feel guilty cos he seems to be able to walk on it ok. His eyes sort of narrow when he looks at me so I reckon he's planning some sort of deadly revenge.
I shall keep an eye out for blueprints in his cage.
