Elderly Spaniel

Hello. Have a much loved older Cocker Spaniel who seems to have rapidly declined in the last six months. She is 12 years old and does not want to walk as much and will have a few chucks of her ball then head home. She seems more anxious and excitable than previously and bounces around the house getting upset if we are standing up, talking, etc.
She will sleep for very long periods and does not seem to recognise us when we return home.
She spends time sitting looking vacant on the lawn.
She forgets she has just been fed and hankers after food moments after being fed.
This is all very much unusual behaviour for her. I get that she is getting old but what should I do to ease her anxiety?

Must add, her recall is now poor. She either doesn’t see us or hear us or just chooses to ignore us. She’s also started eating ornaments...she hasn’t done this since a puppy.

@Finfintytint I have a cocker spaniel, truly incredible characters. I would definitely be going to the vets and tell them everything you've mentioned on here.

How long has your pup been like this?

Hope it all turns out alrightThanks

About 6 months. I fear a type of doggy dementia. I will take her to the vet but so sad about possible prognosis.

@Finfintytint So sadSad definitely get to the vets though, there may be meds available and at least a diagnosis may relax you a little to know what's actually going on?

She has been such a beautiful ( manipulative) dog up until now that I just miss her past behaviours. She is gorgeous but not her usual self..
