I was adamant I was a one dog person but was out numbered by the children and husband wanting a new puppy . I have two male Cocker spaniels and they are lovely together but ... twice as much dog poo , hair and dust I'm have to hoover the house everyday . And the kennel costs are high when you go away . I think you can ask family or friend to look after one dog , but not two imo . I wouldn't change it now , but when my old boy goes I'll stick to just one . Hope that helps x

Yes. My first dog was an only dog and I loved him to bits. When he died I adopted a border collie puppy, when she reached her first birthday I adopted a 9 month old sprocker and discovered how wonderful two dogs are together. I wouldn't go back to one dog.

Please don't get 2 dogs of the same age at the same time, I.e. not litter mates. Google litter mates syndrome. It's awful.
Otherwise, if you have 1 dog and are looking to add another, then it can be great, although my experience is the second dog doesn't get so much of a look in, and it's more tricky to train as you usually have them both out together. Ideally, you want to spend a lot of 1to1 time with the new dog.
If the first dog is getting older, it's nice to have a second one so you are not left dogless, which for me is very difficult.
Equally, is the first dog is very old, then it's not very fair to introduce a young puppy, as that might be too much for the old dog.

How much more work/expense is 2 rather than 1?? Having same debate in our house...

Also it's a lot trickier to find holiday cover for 2. I split mine up and they go to different neighbors as I won't put them in Kennels.

Why are litter mates bad? Going off to Google.

2 always!!! Had my girl until she was 9 & then rescued a 4yr old beagle. Wasn't sure with age difference, but she's like a new dog!

Definitely two. I’m worried how my younger one will cope when the older one goes. That’s why I’m considering a third!!

We've got a 5 year old and a 17 week old puppy.

I love having two, but I don't think our older boy is quite so enamoured..... he just looks at me sometimes as if to say "Mum, what have you done".........
