New Home needed for Labrador

Vixie78 · 14/06/2007 13:30

Dear all
Please help, my 6 year old female black Labrador Jessie needs a new home.
My family and I are moving to the states in August and we can't take her with us.
We are desperate to find her a good home and I am in contact with a Labrador rescue charity but am trying every means possible to re home her myself.
She needs a loving family without other dogs as she doesn't get on with them, but is good with our cats!
She is wonderful with kids, i have 2 girls under 2 years old and she loves them to bits.
She is a bit shy of people she doesn't know till they have given her treats!
If you can help please call 07903912316
or reply to this message, we live in Essex.
We are not asking for money for her, just a good home.
Many thanks
Vicky

Let me ask my mum

she is looking for a black lab...the other one died in January and August may suit since she is on holiday until the end of July.

Awww I would love to help but we rehomed 2nd dog in march and I'm expecting my 3rd child, so I'd be mad
Hopefully you will find someone. Such a shame she can't go with you though.

Oh, I'm so tempted. ILs have always had labs and we'd love one, but small terraced house and everyone out all day, not ideal really. In fact, not done, let's be honest! Oh Vixie, I do hope you find a lovely home for Jessie soon. I'm sure you will.

Hi vixie - what is she like with other dogs? I've got a black lab x collie and she is fine with other dogs and children and I'd love another dog - my dog is a fit 11yr old. I worked with an animal charity for many years so I'm pretty used to all walks of life in the animal world!

Hi there
unfortunatly Jessie is awful with other dog, and I have no idea why, but she really goes for them all even if they don't come near her.
Its a shame as it would make her a lot easier to re home.
Like I said though she is great with kids.
x

Oh that's a shame because I live quite near to you and I'd have given her a lovely home - I work from home and so I'm here all the time and she'd get 2-4 walks a day with all the school runs I do but we do meet a lot of dogs along the way and as you know I have my old faithful friend here anyway. Plus we live with fields all around us so she'd have been dragged around them too!

All I can say is good luck - I really do hope you find somewhere for her soon - what a worry for you though. XX

Shame you can't have her for a trial period just to see how she is with your other dog, especially if you're local to Vixie.

Is there no way she could come with you??

Obviously you'd have to have her looked after or kennelled until Christmas but then she could come and be with you again.

dogpages have a good rehoming page, and could also have a rescue near your that will match up your dog to someone

Have just texted her your details. So if she calls you she's called Sarah or it may be her husband Andrew. They are the lovliest kindest people I know and have experience of labs. So fingers crossed!!

vicky be careful advertising her , is she neutered ? if not ,lie and tell people she is ,as this will put off puppy farmers ,who usually send a relative round and will feed you a line about being lovely family and really want a pet .sorry to sound harsh but its what they do .

Vixie78 · 14/06/2007 20:06

wow never thought of that! She is neutered anyway and has never had pups so wouldn't be much point them coming!! thanks for the tip hun.

Jess is great with or without company, when we first got her we were at work most of the day as my husband did shift work and would come home early (about 3pm). But I have been at home now for 2 years so i guess she is used to me being round.
As long as she gets for breakfast when i get up and her lunch when my daughter gets her's she is happy!
She has no set time for walks, but does love them, she walks on a haltie to stop her pulling and it works really well.
Occasionally if we have to leave her for the day she has never been any trouble.
She is also great in cars

Didn't hear back from my friend Sarah so will try calling them tonight. They would be the perfect parents for Jessie. You must be feeling really crap about it?

ohh would love her but we are in Liverpool. We are just looking for a second dog too

I do feel rotten about it all. We've had her since a puppy so its hard, but the place we are looking to rent doesn't allow pets and we will be coming back to the UK as often as possible to visit and would have to put her in kennels which she would hate cos of the other dogs.
I really want to find a new loving home soon, seems like time is ticking by and we have so much to do.

Have you tried the RSPCA? I know you said you lived in Romford, Essex...but the RSPCA have various Animal Centres who would take her - what about Battersea? Everyone is home checked before and after when rehoming a dog.

What is she like with cats?
