Who's Suffered The Loss of A Beloved Pet?

18 years ago today marks one of the most devastating losses in the life of both my wife, and myself. I never could understand those county "good-old-boy" songs about there dog's death or movies like OldYellow, until...

Losing Rocky

Rocky was a highly intelligent; abnormally smart, spoiled baby female boxer, and someone abducted her from the car. I've long wanted to believe that Rocky may have open the car door, which she was perfectly capable of doing, and simply ran away. However, the amount of love, care, and attention poured into Rocky was absolutely astronomical, and this behaviour was not in her habits.

I'm sharing this story with everyone in the attempts to preventing the loss of a beloved pet, and in our situation... Finally building up the courage to speak about our four legged cherished boxer baby.

I'd never suffered such a loss in my life, as the day of losing Rocky. Having to tell my wife she was missing felt like crucifixion. Next, searching well into the night before coming to reality "she's gone, and won't be re-surfacing." Pure hell.

My focus is on all of you now, the many readers that may have endured this hellish suffering of losing a cherished pet. I implore you all to comment on your experiences. I've never opened up about this topic until today, and surprisingly it feels like a relief. Almost like being healed from a constant pain & suffered illness.

In conclusion, I pray for the losses of anyone that's been in this situation, presently enduring such a matter, and for anyone that shares their story in the comments below. All of these matters require strength, courage, and determination to raise above the painful loss of a furry beloved friend.

For Rocky...

I had a kitten, he was my first one when I was 15. He was bought by my parents as a way to relieve some anxiety at school. I adored him, I love animals and I really believe that he helped me calm down and unwind from anxiety. Just short of his first birthday one of our neighbours poisoned him, along with 3 other cats, for going in his garden. As far as I’m aware, he admitted it and was punished/fined... all the cats died. The lady who found my kitten (he died halfway up my driveway so must have been trying to get home Sad) owned the other cats and said unfortunately hers had died too.

It upset me so much, I still think of him today! He was such a lovely sweet animal and took far too soon. X
