Ill dog

Hi dog been limping the past days but seemed ok in himself. Tried to look last night but warned us off by barking/ threatening to bite us. He was Spritely though. However this morning he looks really ill. Ignored his food and went into bushes. Brought him in the house and seems happy with that. Got a vets appointment later. Do you think it's cos he's in pain or do you think it might be infected? His front paw is the issue but today he has a hunched back and seemed to be struggling to sit. Can't work out if he's just got ill on top of his sore paw and it's allCoincidence

Sounds like much pain. Let us know what the vet says.

Hi hard to tell. But vet thought it unrelated to the paw. Dog had a temperature. And probably just 'picked up something'. Gave him painkiller and antibiotics and said to take him back next day if no better (and have yeast treatment for the paw). He was grand for a couple of days starting to eat etc but I think the pain treatment has worn off now and he looks very ill again. Husband had to get him out bushes last night. He won't eat anything again so I can't get the antibiotics down him. We're keeping any eye on him as it's Sunday. Vet tomorrow if no better. He's drinking still but straining to poo. He had an enlarged prostate some months back so wondering if it's that again the dog is 10.5 years

Oh dear, poor dog. If you want more input (I have no ideas but I hope the vet has got to the bottom of it), try putting this on "In The Doghouse" in the PETS section as that is where all the dog people contribute. They might have some ideas.

So sorry to read this. Mine had the same (she was very old) and she was PTS on New Year's Eve. Much better for her but not good for me!

Thx all - been over 2 weeks now and got him home in an wooden box. Not what I envisaged as it’s sealed. Wanted to release his ashes in favourite wood. They said it would be a little bamboo casing. Think vet was being thoughtful but ...
