Should I get another cat

Hello everybody, just after some general advice here. One of my wee cats had to be put down last week, cancer in his mouth. I am left with one cat, who seems to be taking it all rather badly. He's become very sooky, for want of a better word, and is quite obviously lonely and missing his pal, who had been around from when he was a kitten. So do I get another one to keep him company? I'm also expecting my first baby in March next year, so have to take this into consideration as well, as it will obviously cause massive upheaval! Any advice appreciated!

I would leave it a month or so yet.

Cat is obviously distressed at losing partner, but to get another partner straight away may cause more problems.

Having had a couple of cats who have lost their life long partners, they have got over it after a while and got used to being only one.

IF you bring another cat in straight away, they might not get on or react badly to replacement.

Baby due in march so if get another one need settling in time before this yes? I'd wait till new year and then reassess and see how cat is doing. Hopefully this would still give you time to settle in new cat, before baby if that is what you decide to do.

Just carry on making fuss of cat till then would be my advice.

HTH

Thanks for that advice, I'm fairly certain I will get another one, but will leave it til New year to decide for definite. I probably wouldn't get a kitten for sure...once was enough with that! There's so many wee rescue cats out there, I'd probably take an older one. But I'll see how Noodle is doing after Xmas anyway. Luckily I'm off for the two weeks then so he'll be all cuddled out! He is really enjoying the tremendous fuss I'm making of him at the moment I must say!
