My dog's gone and I can't find him anywhere!!!!!!!!!

My beautiful boy's gone and is nowhere to be found. I've been out for the past 2hrs looking for him and no one has seen him.
I can't see how he could have got out. The gate was shut and the fences are all secure..
The only thing that I can think of is kids trick or treating, goy annoyed cuz I haven't answered the door and opened the gate.
Still waiting for police to ring me back to see if he's been handed in.
He's only 7 months old and the most beautiful springer, he could be anywhere, could have been knocked down or even got onto railway tracks nearby....
My poor little baby....where could he be??????

oh poor you. is he wearing collar with tag? is he chipped? do you know other dog owners in area? do you take a usual route when you go for walks? i know of dogs who have been returned safe and sound after panicking, running around until exhausted and approaching random door... you must be v upset but the chances of him being found and handed to police/rspca are high. good luck - i will keep fingers crossed for you!

he has a blue checked collar on. dh is still out driving round, and going to make posters up and ring newspaper lost & found in the morning.
hes just so young and energetic and friendly. I don't live on a nice estate really so not sure anyone would care if they saw him and if they did they'd try asnd keep him...so scared I'll never see him again.....

chat up local dog owners - catch them out on walks tomorrow morning. they'll know what you're going through and will keep an eye out and it's a network of people so if he is seen it's more likely to get back to you. on the poster be careful what numbers you give out (mobiles best) ask people to contact you if they've seen a dog like him with someone else. you could try a reward - but heartfelt plea is often as good i think. ring dog shelters in morning...and keep ringing local police stations. they're not always on the ball when it comes to lost dogs. and don't panic! he might come home yet! i know springers are daft (or ours was!) but sometimes dogs have more sense than you give them credit for! are your phone numbers/address on his collar?

I feel so bad for you, this is awful and you must be beside yourself with worry. I'm sure he'll turn up safe and sound, but in the meantime get in touch with your dog warden (this is where he'll go if he's handed into the police), local rescue centres and ALL the vets in your immediate and not so immediate area. Another place to contact is the Dog Lost Website, they can be very helpful:

www.doglost.co.uk

Let us know how you get on and I hope you get your boy home safe and well soon.

Take care.

Thanks for your support. Just spoke to police and he's not been handed in so I'll have to wait til morning to get any thing else done.
Got the dog wardens number and the rescue centre that they use.
Toby usually walks with us to school so I'll be asking everyone on the way tomorrow.

I'm just so angry as well as upset as I'm fairly sure the only way for him to get out is if someone opened the gate and its not an easy gate to open...
don't know if i'll sleep tonight so thinki'll stay on here for a bit longer

Springers will try and escape if they can, when we moved ours was forever running away, it took us a few weeks to work our all his escape routes.

Having been there I will think of you tonight. Hope you find him.

God, I'd be beside myself. Any luck? Is he microchipped? This is very important, as I know you won't want to hear this, but there are a lot of unscrupulous people who, upon finding a lost dog, will sell it on. Especially a nice breed like a Springer. If he's chipped, and you hear of someone who's acquired a dog and you think it's yours, you can prove that you are the rightful owner.

I've found him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been ringing all sorts of people trying to find him, dog warden, police, rescue centres and he was only 5 mins away.

A wonderfully kind person found him and took him to our local vets where he spent the night. The horrible people that let him out even took his collar off and threw it in a garden!

Police are even checking cctv to see if they can find the culprits.
Just picked him up and come home, where he ran striaght to his bed to get his fav toy. I'm so relieved, I don't think I've ever been as stressed!

He's not microchipped but he will be on friday, made app at vetss while I was there. They were really kind and didn't charge me for his overnight stay!

Thank you for your support from me and Toby

Just read your post, and soooo happy he is safe.
FYI there is a website called Dog Lost. They contact all sorts of people, such as postmen, window cleaners, you know local people who are always in your area.
Fortunatly you don't need them, but if anybody else loses theirs, I believe they have a good success rate with lost and stolen dogs.
