Cats sick, How normal?

Hi Cat Owners,

We've just moved from Asia to the UK. There we took on a stray short haired kitten who was an indoors cat. Very occassionly he would be sick during the night. Maybe the odd bit of food could be seen but that's about it.

Last couple of weeks I've been coming downstairs in the morning to see a pile of sick and his dinner on the carpet. I started hoovering more regularly to reduce the chance it could be fluff or something he might be eating and reduced his dry food in the evening to 20g. Straight away the sick episodes stopped, gone over a week with no incident. This morning came down and a lovely streak of sick down the sofa. No lumps of food in it though.

Would be interested to know if my cat is particularly unusual for this behaviour? Can't spot any hairballs. I probably wouldn't be that concerned if it wasn't for the fact we have returned to our home which is very open plan and have no room that is really his unlike our previous place. Not being able to contain where he will be sick is not so great!

It sounds like furballs to me. Sometimes they are not so obvious (you have to feel for them amongst the goo!!!) - also sometimes our cat has a few false attempts before the furball comes up Grin

does he have acess to grass? This time of year brings lots of fur balls because of the change in the weather. I don't think it will be carpet.

Thanks.. I think it is furballs.
He isn't out yet, waiting for final jab against leukemia.
Found a site that mentioned indoor cats having it often as they groom a lot rather than be outdoors playing etc.
He is healthy otherwise, but just thought I would see what others might suggest.

Turns out some cats have problems with dry food, so it's either little of it or wet food completely. Fingers crossed this helps!
