worms in kittens

sorry for the disgusting subject matter, but today I saw a worm coming out of Dory's bum [puke] Luckily I have some treatment stuff here from when we got Nemo, so I have started the treatment, but am confused, it says to treat her every 2 weeks for 12 weeks (so 6 treatments) so does it kill the worms straight away or take 12 weeks to clears up???

with nemo I just treated him, and he didn't have worms to my knowledge, but he had fleas so thought I would treat him at the same time.

it's probably like nits... it'll kill all the live ones but if there are eggs you have to wait til they hatch and then it'll kill them...

so is that why it says every 2 weeks?? I have noted it on my calender.

yep. you;ll kill the first lot... then any eggs that hatch will be killed by the second... and so on

and i guess you have to carry on in case they are reinfected by other animals they're in contact with or from their litter tray etc

Our puppy had them, they even wriggled when they came our YUK, the worming powders cleared them up almost straight away, just had a bit of a upset tum for a few days. I was told to re-worm 2 weeks later. She's been fine since

Should I treat Nemo again then?? He doesn't use the tray, he goes out.

when Dh brought her in 3 days ago, her eye looked gunky, (dh said she had been fighting with her sister just before he took her) she was riddled with fleas and she has worms, her eye is looking better now, she has no fleas and the worms are being treated, next stop, a check up at the vet and getting her booked in for neuturing and jabs.

Kittens get worms from their mothers milk. They need to be treated regularly up until they are 6 months, if you use panacur it's every 4 weeks

I wouldn't treat the kitten with something that hadn't been prescribed for it, although sounds like it's a bit late for that.

If you have other animals it may be worth treating them too, although older animals can get the treatment that lasts 3 months so it may not be necessary.

1st off always asume kittens and puppies have worms and the should be wormed every 2 weeks untill 6 weeks and every month untill 6 months and every 3-4 months after that.
worms can damage the kittens or puppies gut if not treated thats why you do it so often just incase some are missed. aslo i would advise a milti wormer from your vet not one from a supermarket either panacur or something similar.
