We brought a Labrador Retriever Puppy (chocolate in colour)yesterday , and when we got her home last night we noticed that she was coughing a lot, so i called a vets today to make an appointment but dont want to go if its a waist of time, so i thought i would check on here first! But they couldn't see her until tomorrow anyway!

Her name is Bailey and she is 10 weeks and 2 days old today and she seems to be coughing a lot and also has a runny nose! Her cough seems a bit chesty but thats the only symptoms she has had!

Any advice before tomorrow would be great!

TIA

K.Cough is a retchy cough that sounds like something stuck in their throat, if its mild its not a problem but in a young pup I would be careful, if she sounds chesty and has a runny nose too, I would def get the vets to chc her out. Tomorrow will be fine if she is bright/eating/playing but if she seems poorly or doesnt eat, I would get her seen today.

agree with miggy if seems ok inself wait untill tomorrow - i have a chocci lab (now 5 yrs old)

Enjoy him.. easy to train. But watch the food intake - can become dustbins.

how did the dog get on at the vets today? How much did it cost you in the end?

How is Bailey?? Our chocci lab was ill within 3 days of getting him with severe diarrhoea - it is awful to see such a young dog suffering but with a bit if tlc should get better.

I am probably having to take ours to vets today as developed a real "wretch" as though something is stuck in his windpipe. Not keeping any food down for longer than about an hour. Will probably be "Grass"....What was I saying about them being dustbins??

I went to see Bailey today. She is very cute and very distructive! She chews anything and everything, including toes!

It is kennel cough she has but she should soon be on the road to recovery with her antibiotics.

Hi Kid - glad to hear that Bailey is ok - mine looks like he has a similar thing to Kennel cough (but not been in kennels!!) on antibiotics aswell and the vet needs to see him again tomorrow. We were up half the night due to the noise of the cough - worse than when DS was a baby!!

Good morning, thanks for the response about my little pup, as kid said, it is kennel cough and she is now on a 10 day course of antibiotics. She seems a lot better today, still has a little cough but is getting better! She did also have diarhea (or however its spelt), but that has also been cleared up!

fifilala, hope u dog is better soon!

How is she doing today?

I read on a website that kennel cough is highly contagious to other dogs so maybe its best that you keep her away from other dogs for the time being.

Did she go near 'E' at all? They'd better keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't catch it.

How is Bailey - mine definately has Kennel cough - not been in kennels but due to go in next wednesday!!! had kennel cough vaccine last week, but appears to have picked up a bug from somewhere. He finishes the antibiotics on the day that he is due to go in so I think we will tell them that he has had a chest infection. The kennels weren't actually that bothered if he had the vaccine or not so hopefully they will not turn him away(he has been treated afterall)

thankfully he already seems to be 90% improved and only coughs when gets excited!

Bailey seems fine, she was sick this morning after eating her breakfast, but we was told to expect that coz its the same sort of thing as when we cough and cough, we start to gag, and thats what she has done and brought breakfast back up (sorry if tmi)

kid, E wouldn't go anywhere near her, so i dont think she would have caught it, but if she has got it then, i thought she might of started coughing by now???
