At the end of this month Republic is heading to Plymouth and Truro to host screenings of the documentary The Man Who Shouldn't Be King.

The film highlights the real problems Duchy of Cornwall tenants face becaues of the feudal way Prince Charles runs the estate. Making the film has spurred us on to get the Duchy taken off Charles's hands (it's not his private property) and to ensure all Duchy tenants enjoy the same rights as the rest of us.

I would never agreed with having the Royals

They cost the earth
The get their transport paid for public money and security costs fortune for all of them free holidays.

They get an extravagant yearly allowance so should not be getting their hands on the two duchies which they get millions from.

No - I'd far rather have a monarchy then the alternative of a presidential system that would probably cost more, be more prone to fraud/abuse, and not be as effective/beneficial to the country.

Even if we did, we would probably still end up forking out for them all. They would still have their vast estates and money. It would probably only change their title.

The history of the monarchy brings a lot of money into the country. That will still be there if we ditch the royals themselves. Versailles seems to do ok for visitors. It's not as if tourists are coming here expecting to actually see the queen.

It would depend on the alternative being presented - but assuming that was something I could live with, yes. For the sake of the Royals themselves. I feel very sorry for children being born into lives of such complete scrutiny and constant criticism.

Yes, I would. They are a ridiculous bunch. Why not end their official roles, then greater allow public access to their various castles and estates and also to their art collections. Surely that would boost tourism.

Those that suffer, bring it on themselves, usually with poor behaviour, virtue signalling, attention seeking and hypocracy.

There are plenty of minor Royals who don't court the media and manage to live a reasonable normal life.

Just think about Edward, Sophie and their children - barely a mention in the media. Then you have others who deliberately manipulate the media for attention seeking and whinge when they get called out for it!

Bollocks, frankly. What about George and Charlotte having to walk past banks of cameras for their first day at school? You’d be happy with that for yours, would you? You’d be happy for your sons to walk behind your coffin, all televised to the masses? Because I wouldn’t. More minor royals might manage, but those born to the top jobs don’t have a chance.

Yes. It’s not a democratic institution. Anything which uses which family you’re born into as grounds for why you should be in an important role should be stopped. Campaigning for social mobility while wanting to keep a queen/king as head of state is hypocrisy.
