PLEASE READ , SHARE AND SIGN MY PETITION
www.change.org/p/david-cameron-mp-saving-babies-from-group-b-strep-routinely-test-pregnant-women-for-gbs-using-the-ecm-test

On 23rd October 2015 our 4th child, Faith, was stillborn full term plus 9 days.

When we received all the results back following Faiths death I found out I had Group B Strep. I will be treated for GBS in future pregnancies, but have had to wait for my baby to die to find out I even had it!!!

I am now passionate about raising awareness of the possible risks of GBS.

GBS is not routinely tested for in the UK so I have started a petition for all pregnant women to be routinely tested for GBS using the ECM test.

I would be so grateful if you would READ, SIGN and SHARE my petition.
Thank you x

I have signed it and am commenting here to bump your thread. I am so sorry for your loss. By chance I had a urine sample tested during pregnancy as I had some sign of a UTI and it showed I had group B strep. My due date was only a month after you. It sickens me to think something that is so easily treated is causing so many deaths each year. I am so sorry for your loss and hope changes are made for the better. Flowers

Bumping! Group b strep carrier here! Ds born in June 2015 had meningitis, sepsis and pneumonia. Nearly lost him all coz if one stupid, cheap test they wouldn't do. All ok now (hearing loss and possibly global development delay but alive!)

I've signed it. I had my first baby overseas and was routinely tested for it and found to be positive. Back in the UK for my second baby I luckily remembered to mention it and they treated me as a carrier again - didn't bother to re test me, just took my word for it.

So sorry but with Livewyre on this. The evidence for mass screening and widespread use of prophylactic antibiotic treatment isn't clear cut or unequivocal.

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers and will sign but concerned that AIBU isn't the right place for this as you may receive some less than empathic replies.

Yes. I agree with, PRDAP. I'd ask MNHQ to move it to chat. You dont need people telling you, thst. YABU at a time like this. Id say ask them to move it to the bereavement section but. There's not much traffic over there.x

I have read that, and perhaps if you had a child that died from a preventable cause you may not feel it unreasonable. Clearly the following countries that offer screening for GBS also don't think its unreasonable:- Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Dubai, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lithuania, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Poland, Spain, Slovenia, Switzerland, Taiwan and the USA.

Agree aibu not best place for this. Will sign, I've a friend who lost her child to GBS.

What am I missing re screening and treatment? Because I have not seen before and can't find now any pressing reason not to?

Signed. Maybe this would be best in the pregnancy section.

I'm in the UK DC tested positive when born, paid for own test this time as you don't automatically get antibiotics or test in second pregnancy. As luckily DC was ok - signed.

I'll sign. My dd caught it from me during labour and ended up in intensive care. Thankfully she survived but even the hospital said it could have easily been avoided with the anti biotics in advance of her birth.

With dd1 they tested for GBS with one of my water samples and was given anti-bs during labour. With dd2 and 3 I had to tell the midwife I had previously tested positive as she had no idea (I thought they'd read previous notes!?) So was also given anti-bs for their births. Doesn't bare to imagine what might have happened if I'd not had that 1st test done (no idea if its a regular test here -NE UK, but dont think they did the test in next 2 pregnancies, which is why I had to tell them)

Sorry for your loss 💐

I know of babies who have needlessly died. I even read of a local baby who dies as adults were kissing him on the mouth and he got strep B.

Since the NHS Is financially struggling a good idea would be to offer it for £11. Most people could scrape that together.

Signed, shared and bumping the thread.

I found out I had Group B Strep during pregnancy after being tested for a urine infection - otherwise I never would have known.

So sorry for the loss of your precious daughter, Faith Flowers.

Bumped and signed.

It seems to me that AIBU is ABSOLUTELY the best place for this thread. The OP has obviously posted here for traffic.

It's a call to sign a petition if you agree that it needs to be considered in Parliament - and I think that's an opportunity she's entitled to given her story. As most people know, for that to happen, she will need 100,000 signatures. I don't think it's BU of her to want to share her story, help raise awareness and ask mumsnetters to help her in that.

Flowers So sorry for your loss, op.
