Women in the UK must be free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence

On New Year’s Eve, women across the EU were subjected to mass sex assaults. UK women must be free to travel, work and live without intimidation or sexual violence. We ask the Government to debate and enforce measures to promote and uphold women's rights irrespective of cultural attitudes.

It is wishy washy. Theres no clear request.
Maybe the petition should request funding for all women between certain ages to attend self defence classes in light of what happened in Cologne? If they can find £20 million to spend on English classes for refugees presumably they can find the money to protect British women too?
it needs to be the other way round.
the onus must be for men not to behave in a criminal matter and the law wbforcement to come down hard on those that do.
I am concerned about giving police more powers. There are laws in place and the police should take all attacks on Women more seriously. I think they may hijack this to gain more funds and powers they don't need. They need to do their job properly in the first instance.
SmallGreen Parliament cannot debate what you have said. It can only debate clearly defined requests within their remit. How would they put onus on men to behave?
max 300 characters allowed - you try it.
MNHQ Would you be kind enough to delete the post that says petition was rejected and susbstitute:

Agree the petition is badly worded.
Why not something along the lines of:
We wish the government not to allow anyone to immigrate without checking their criminal background
If that is not possible due to lack of paperwork do not allow any single muslim men in to the country unless they speak English and have a job lined up.
Women in the UK must be free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence
I am not aware of anywhere in the world, at any time in history, where women have been free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence, but I agree it would be great.
They need to do their job properly in the first instance. absolutely. nothing to add, really.
knackeredknees 80 characters allowed for Header, 300 for main body of text. Go for it. But it has to be something that Govt or Parliament can attend to ..... not just simply a wish.
Ok. Let's ask them to do a Trump then 😉😀
knackeredknees Type out what you want to say in Word. Under Tools, go to Options and there you will find Word Count. Draft the petition (max 300 characters) and word-count it automatically. Ditto for the header.
I'm not really bothered enough to start a petition myself. Just saying that the one in the OP is too vague.
The whole point of this petition was to try to find a way to make the government acknowledge that women's rights should not be sacrificed to appease other groups without making racist allegations.
We are all aware that not all Muslims, not all refugees, not all immigrants and not all men would behave in this way but we should not stand by and allow freedom and safety of women to be eroded as we hear is happening in other European countries. Equally we are all aware that misogyny and sexual violence is not unheard of in all societies but that is no reason to allow practices like Taharrush to be imported without us at least trying to protest
This has all been discussed in detail over the last 3 weeks or so, so there has been plenty of opportunity for those who feel the wording should have been different to say so. If you don't feel it is right and don't want to sign then that's your choice but I feel this is a small way to try to make a better safer future for my children
The slightly adapted petition has been accepted!!!!
Link here - hopefully thread header will be updated soon...

I've received a reply from MNHQ about deleting the link in the very first post from Cologne2016 because that link refers to the rejected petition. I think MNHQ has misunderstood ..... waiting to hear again.
It would be good if the petition link could be inserted at the very top, where the Threads are!
Could MNHQ edit the first post and add both an explanation along with the second petition link?
MESSAGE FROM MNHQ stating they cannot edit first post which gives link to the failed petition.
Hi Help
Thanks for getting back to us about this.
We can see what you mean, but we don't tend to remove posts or edit them for these reasons.
Thanks again and best wishes
Becca
MNHQ
OK! so people dipping in may see the rejcted petition and click on it?
how odd!
how many times has MNHQ had to change petitions threads for these reasons?
Can we start a new thread in petitions with updated or new accepted in the title or something?
(I have to go and do some work but will back later)_
