Please sign, whenever I am out shopping and see foie gras, I feel sick!

I'm vegan and have problems with lots of animal rights issues, but things can only change one step at a time. Please sign this petition to make a difference!

Whenever I'm out shopping and see foie gras, I think 'yum!' When I see things I don't like my first instinct isn't to ban them and so deprive those who don't share my point of view.

If its your petition, you might want to edit it so it makes some sense:
"Eating foiegras can trigger diseases that people predisposed to such as Alzheimer’s CJD and diabetes" makes none at all.
And if you are alleging that foie gras causes alzheimers you're going to want some proof, as it sounds like you just made stuff up to bolster your position.

We regularly holiday in France in an area well known for making foi gras.

the traditional method of fattening the goose is cruel.

BUT, there are many producers now who do not use the traditional fattening methods, they just grow the geese and then make the pate from the liver.

There is no difference to this than to eating roast chicken on a Sunday.

Foi gras is made from liver, as far as I know eating liver is not associated with all the things in your petition.

Fair enough if you don't eat meat, you don't want anything to do with eating meat. Your choice.
But if I was to sign a petition it would be for the traditional method of fattening the goose to be banned, not for foi gras.

Please don't show your ignorance about how foie gras is obtained - it is not just 'a goose's liver' - they have a pipe shoved down their gullet and a kilo of grain and fat pumped into them up to three times a day. Read the link if you have the balls.

I don't have an issue with eating meat, I eat it myself, but some practices are awful. It's not that foie gras needs banning, it's that it needs to be done in a way that doesn't mistreat the goose while it's still living.

I'm not going to link to an animal rights website - but I do think its important that people make informed choices and those of you suggesting that you can produced foie gras without force-feeding are, sadly, uninformed. You cannot - it would simply be duck liver pate and foie gras is not duck liver pate.

The American veterinary medical association states that Force feeding is necessary to produce the size and fat content that makes a liver ‘foie gras.’ and There is no current alternative to force feeding that produces an equivalent product

OP there is a lot of good evidence out there on the problems of foie gras production - please use it, don't undermine animal welfare by making up tenuous or non-existant links to human health issues

We are in the EU therefore free trade is allowed.

It would make much more sense to petition the EU Parliament to implement banning production in the countries that still produce it.

We can all do our bit (if we disapprove of it) by not buying anything from retailers that stock it.

I did not start the petition and I do not know the lady who did.

I came across the petition after finding that Harrods are stocking foie gras. I was appalled because I am very much against it and thought it was banned. I was going to start my own petition, but on finding hers I decided to promote hers instead.

I think criticizing her name is very bitchy and unnecessary. It dosen't contribute to the thread at all.

Lots of high end shops stock foie gras, as does at least one stall in Borough Market.

I will not be signing the petition. If there were that many people in uproar about it then there wouldn't be a demand for it, and it would stop being produced. This is a small community pushing their own agenda onto the rest of the population.

sach - no, that's incorrect. The EU allows for free trade, but countries can still have differing stances on the legality of products. What you have to do is provide a level playing field - you couldn't refuse to sell french produced foie gras, but sell a spanish equivalent (for example).

EG Weed is legally for sale in the Netherlands, but you can't legally import and sell it in the UK.

The UK won't ban the import of foie gras because it would case too many problems with France on a diplomatic level.

I actually think that the current practise, where it is illegal to PRODUCE foie gras in the UK, but not illegal to SELL it, is a very good compromise.

Also, your personal views on seeing foie gras for sale have pretty much zero reason on why it should be banned. People should be allowed to decide their own personal morals when it comes to issues such as food consumption.

I would personally love a total ban on the import and sale of real fur in the UK, but that doesn't mean it's ever going to actually happen (or that I would try and impose that view on others).

OP- I'm not a vegan but agree that Foie Grois shouldn't be on sale in the UK.

There was a lot of outrage about the treatment of dogs in China a few months ago and I don't see how force feeding geese is any less cruel.

There are always unproven or weak "scientific claims" made about food to suit different lobbies so I think the medical claims weakens the argument.

These animals are grown for us to eat and I don't really think about their feelings. In the end they are slaughtered so....IMO does it really matter.
