I am admin of a FB page- HPI we currently have over 18,000 members, it would seem they are all taking holidays as we only have 2,300 signatures in a new petition we are campaigning for...

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP!!??

We would like to create a "Holiday Council" for families, teachers & anyone affected by holidaying in the school holidays

We want to form a "Holiday Council" this would include the travel industry and Education Department, who look at viable solutions in order to reduce pricing in the set school holiday period for parents and teachers and anyone restricted to holiday with their family in these periods

Seriously? When the government is on its knees and wasting money you want room drive energy to package holiday prices?

Plus they'll probably make the situation worse

Not a chance for the reasons stated by 'minesapintoftea'

Prices are reduced outside school holiday periods. School holiday prices are the 'actual' price. The only changes that holiday companies are likely to make would be to put the reduced prices back up so they are the same year round and they can stop being accused of profiteering from parents.

Daft idea but why not just book the holiday you can afford at the time that is free to go? No point getting upset that a week in November is cheaper than a week in August when that isn't the holiday you want/can have anyway

I thought this was going to be something helpful like decent childcare in school holidays. That's the real problem.

I have no idea what it is you want to achieve, or how you think you're going to achieve it.

I imagine that's why people aren't signing.

In Europe prices are a lot cheaper as they have solved the problems we have in the UK, surely most of you as parents would want the same? Why be so negative, the idea is to get people around the table that will discuss and move things in a positive direction to benefit us all, as I said it's been done else where sorry not in the UK too?

Have to agree with (virtually) everyone else.
Try turning it on it's head (as suggested above). Think of the August price as being the true cost, and then all those lucky enough to be able to go on holiday 'out of season' get a discount. Apart from school staff, that's most people except for about 20 yrs of your life when you might have school age dc.

Where are holidays cheaper in Europe? Without accounting for the Euro being low at the moment or lower travel costs...

If that's the case, let's all holiday in those countries?
