I hope this won't offend anyone but please can as many of you lovely mumsnetters sign this petition to help this little boy who must be so scared being kept away from his family in a foreign country.

We don't know anywhere near enough about this case to be signing petitions IMO.

But we do know that a little boy with a terminal illness is in a hospital far from home surrounded by strangers.

I agree we don't know enough about the case, but he must be terrified Sad

Sorry OP but I only know what I have read in the press about the boy & his family. Children are not taken into care over nothing & removing such an ill child from hospital & taking him out of the country does not fill me with trust in his parents' decisions. I cannot sign as I don't want the boy returned to his family if it will cause him harm in the future & I do not know enough about the family to make an informed decision.

Yes OP but his current circumstances have been brought about by the decisions of the parents. No offence but you have no idea that he is terrified, you have no idea what he is thinking.

I have been on too many threads on MN where posters have said 'if only someone would have intervened in my childhood then things would have been different'. Perhaps this is the crucial intervention for him.

If there is evidence to suggest that his parents put him at risk over and above just trying to do their best for him then even this petition won't make a differencea and that's fine. But for his sake, I thought I would try for him. That's all.

I won't be signing because

a) we really don't know what is going on, and
b) all the petition asks for is for the PM and the police to 'do something' without really saying what. Things like extradition are covered by interntional treaty and EU law, and (unless actual steps within the power of one state irrespective of the others can be suggested) this isn't going to achieve anything in a timeframe which makes the slightest bit of different.

Why not trust the many professionals involved to make the best decisions for this child based on full information about his health and circumstances? How can any of us possibly know enough about this complicated situation to think we know better than the professionals involved?

What is the petition for?

I can't believe people are signing petitions when they only know what the parents are choosing to tell the media.

The NHS and police cannot say very much for fear of breaching confidentiality/ data protection laws so we only have the parent's side of the story.

You have no idea what is really going on in this case or why the police/hospital have acted the way they have.

According to his consultant he has an 80% chance of a full recovery. I'd hardly describe that as 'terminal'.

Jeez they are Under arrest... What is Cameron likely to do? Don't think you know the full story, you shouldn't be interfering

well we do know that they didnt neglect him on the journey unless they rushed out and bought all that food/meds after the arrest
so not starving
tube not run out of battery
and they didnt need permission to take him out of hospital

Also don't feel I have enough information to sign. There's something very unusual going on that's for sure. I do think that for all the NHS's problems, they will have been doing their best for Ashya and for all we know, it could be that his parents, in understandable desperation and misery, have done their own research and believe that proton beam therapy is the best treatment for their boy. They maybe totally incorrect though and it isn't appropriate for the type of tumour he has. We just don't know. I wish them all well and hope that Ashya has the best possible outcome.

50000 people have already signed... In 1 day. These people believe that we have the right to live in a country where we can challenge medical opinion, without fear of the threat of child protection procedures; that we can remove our own child from hospital care without medical agreement, with the best interests of our child as paramount; that we can leave the country FREELY with our own child without being subject to arrest; that most of us do have the intelligence and sense to research and seek out treatment options for our child without permission from a medic; that the police do not have the all encompassing power to obtain search warrants and European arrest warrants when they admit that 'no crime has been committed'.. This is an eye opening case which exposes our state controlled country at its worst.

And 50000 agree. And counting...
Keep signing...

The petition asks "So as a parent, Mr Cameron please see it your heart to arrange some mercy to be shown for two wonderful parents."

But what actions will actually do that?

Jellykat · 01/09/2014 21:06

I completely agree with Florence, and had already heard of Proton Beam Therapy, as someone i know is hoping to go to France to receive the treatment himself.

This case is not the usual jump on the bandwagon type of situation

If you have followed it from the beginning you would realise that there has almost certainly been an over reaction by the police which has led to the parents imprisonment

I have based my view on watching the material placed on YouTube by the family, from the media reports I have listened to and from listening to the views of experts and from hearing the statements put out by the police and the hospital.

The fact that the Crown Prosecution Service has sufficient concern that they are reviewing their decision to issue a European Arrest Warrant for the parents also strongly suggests there may have been a miscarriage in this case.

Even assuming the parents do have a case to answer I cannot imagine why these parents have been denied access to their very sick son and remain in prison. That is barbaric.
