Please join bereaved mum in petitioning P&O Ferries to Install CCTV cameras on passenger decks.

In May last year my son was on a P&O Ferry crossing from Calais to Dover. He went on deck for a cigarette and never returned. He was never found and there were no CCTV cameras on deck to show us what happened to him. They have CCTV cameras to protect the duty free but not to protect the passengers. We don't know if he fell, or jumped or was pushed. Please help us to change the law so that ferries must have closed circuit television on deck.

We now have over 92,000 signatures on our petition and we need to keep up the pressure so that working parties and others considering the proposal will not just dismiss it. Public opinion must be taken seriously and any parents who lose a child in this way will want to know how it happened. CCTV on deck would be a huge help. Please support us by signing our petition and spreading the word worldwide by facebook, email and twitter.

What does 'bumping' mean? Is it a means of spreading the message like twitter? Sorry! I don't know these things as I'm new to all this. Best wishes to you.

Signed.

Can't imagine what you must of been through, his disappearance must haunt you every day. So so sad for your loss. Unbearable thinking about losing our children. Was he travelling alone?

Signed. Have you considered buying a handful of shares in p&o so that you can attend their AGM and raise this as-question there? You would be able to put questions to the board at the end of the proceedings. Sometimes these AGMs have media coverage.

Hey that's an idea. I'll think about that one. The Chamber of Shipping have set up a working party to discuss the issue and I want to keep up the dialogue so they don't just dismiss it. There is a whole cover-up which goes on with these companies. They like to pretend it hasn't happened so that all is sweetness and light but we need to make them more transparent and then they'll have to think about how they deal with it all. Thanks for your helpful suggestion.

Thank you. No he wasn't travelling alone, he had been on holiday with his fiancee and she stayed downstairs with the bags while he went on deck for a cigarette, and she never saw him again. It is tragic for her too, not knowing what happened is terrible.
