I don't think it matters whether or not you read The Sun, you can still be opposed to Page 3.

Big supporter of this. Hoping it's the first step in changing attitudes about what is / is not appropriate. Not arguing for censorship, just conscious of how sexualised our society has become and the pressures on our children (girls and boys) as a result.

Murdoch said he's thinking of axing Page 3 the other day. Then he did a bit of a climbdown. But dunno, it really seems something afoot with this campaign.

Yep, plus retweet anti p3 stuff on twitter and have challenged rupert Murdoch on twitter about it

Totally unacceptable in today's society - but then that applies to crap like FHM, Nuts and Zoo as well

I signed it ages ago and am thrilled with the campaign.

My best mate is one of the 7-strong team who have organised this. Fantastic, inspirational and dedicated women.
I've signed it, and continue to re-tweet and re-post wherever I can to help with the momentum.

No and I'm not going to!

It's the sort of non issue that makes men laugh at feminists.

I walk topless down the beach on holiday, I've BF in a whole variety of places, banning the sight of breasts just seems totally wrong.

Yes, I know its meant to be symbolic of the objectification of women and all that jazz, but that's way too intellectual for your average Sun reader.

Your average teen boy will just have the idea reinforced that breasts are dirty sexual things that should only be seen in porn mags. Older men will just think that feminists are boring prudes and my mum and me just think there are far far more important women's rights issues to worry about.

And any girl daft enough to worry that boys give a damn that she doesn't look like a page three girl, knows nothing about boys.

You have totally missed the point of the campaign and the reasons behind it Startail.

I'm not signing it either. I totally agree with Startail.

I've signed it. I've never understood the topless on holiday thing TBH, why would you want brown(er) breasts when very few people are going to see and admire them? I certainly never saw someone walking around Golden Square with their tits out.

yes I have signed it

no I do not read the sun

and I do not care that some men laugh at feminists let them laugh we shall keep working at making society a better place for us all

I won't sign it. Those ladies will lose money if they stop page 3 for a start.

Many more important feminist issues in the world.

I've signed, so have my friends.

It's going to go anyway, Murdoch has pretty much agreed that it's increasingly pointless.
Personally I don't care, I don't buy or read The Sun, and I bet, nor does anybody on this thread that have signed the petition. And I'm sure you still won't buy it after page 3 is banned.
But whatever, we have to have a pointless campaign about something.

am off to sign.
no objection to bare breasts. happy to see more pics of babies breastfeeding in the news.

object to the idea that there is some sort of divine men's right to leer at naked women / sex objects in their daily newspaper.

because if those pics of womens bodies were no longer included in the sun, what would hapoen to the pooooooor meeeeeen?

People who say it's pointless an a non-issue make me laugh.

Please say very very well done to you friend, inwiththe.

Has anyone made the point that if you disagree with page 3 you should give the men in your lives, who buy this paper, a hard time

Report
LittleWhiteWolf · 15/02/2013 08:32

I hate the line that gets trotted out about there being more pressing feminist matters to deal with.
For a start I can be involved with this and other issues like FGM as a friend of mine uses as an example.
Secondly, thinking of page three as a little, non issue just goes to show how indoctrinated we are by the media and society against seeing sexism and gender inequality as a big problem. Page three may seem small but getting rid of tits in a national, family newspaper, where they have no place and thus also removing the snide and derisive "news in brief" will be a massive victory for campaigners for gender equality.

Yes, I've signed it.
When I first met my DH he used to buy it and when he moved in with me the first morning he went to the newsagents and came back with it I told him to get that shitty rag out of my flat. He never bought it again to my knowledge
