I've seen it so often on this site - the past tense of "text" as "text".

"I text him and told him..."

It's irritating.

That's all, really. I know it's new as a verb but surely the past tense is "texted". Or properly "I sent him a text message..."

Wouldn't texted be ok as the past tense of the verb "to text" which I would think of as a proper verb in the 21st century?

Yes "texted" would be ok, it's the use of "text" as a past tense which is like a seed in my teeth.

I completely agree VG, I've noticed it a few times myself.

Suspect the perps are thinking in terms of "texed". (wrong I know, just speculating)

"I turned around and said..." and then
"He turned around and said...".
