The first sounds clumsy. And in one you say "should", one "would" - is that deliberate? I prefer the second.

Think it depends on whether you want to put emphasis on the teacher or the route, but I would say they are both fine.

It depends what you're trying to say, which isn't entirely clear. But assuming you are simply discussing with the teacher, the first is correct. It is not clumsy - it just appears that if one rarely constructs sentences correctly. The second is too ambiguous. The suggestion of "the teacher and I" is fine.
