What is the plural of trolley?

I thought it was trollies but MS Office is telling me trolleys...

trolleys . Same as pulley is pulleys. If its ey iyts eys in the plural. if its just y its ies* in the plural. Like dolly.




I just made that up, hope its right.

If there is a vowel before the y you just add s for the plural. If there is a consonant take of the y and add ies.

Yes, I know this is a VERY old thread but just googled this very question! DC had a 'plurals' spelling test - she wrote 'trolleys' but it was marked incorrectly and teacher said 'trollies' was correct. Even Google seems confused but surely it's the 'ey' rule?

Teachers are not infallible unfortunately!

I agree with others that it is trolleys. The example I remember from my own primary school days is journeys.

The junior school head where we used to live sine years ago used to produce a newsletter, rather too frequently for such a shocking speller.
