Pedants' corner seems most annoying appropriate place to ask.

It once took me quite some time to convince DP that after snow had fallen it had not, it fact

A "die in". A lie in where you are not merely snoozing but really dead asleep. As in: I've been up four nights on the trot with my teething baby and I'm desperately in need of a die in.

S1ur Wed 09-Jul-08 19:17:16

yes indeed swedes. though that just maeks me think of protests.

Tis all a bit dictionary of liff.

Desiderata Wed 09-Jul-08 19:20:00

Prinkles ought to be a viable substitute for chin stubble.

franke Wed 09-Jul-08 19:20:31

"louding" according to ds1 is what smoeone is doing when operating noisy machinery - anything from a hand drill to a road digger.

Discombobulated.

BoysAreLikeDogs Wed 09-Jul-08 19:21:34

Oho

I gromf peanuts regularly

Ecmo Wed 09-Jul-08 19:21:42

you should wear "glubs" to keep your hands warm in winter
they are much easier to say and spell than gloves!

S1ur Wed 09-Jul-08 19:23:45

I swibbled my wine at the weekend. A quick swig and accidental splash.

franke Wed 09-Jul-08 19:23:50

Oh yes, ds1 (again) has glubs. He asked me to buy him some gobbles for when he goes swimming.

edam Wed 09-Jul-08 19:25:47

Second discombobulated. And thingamajig should be recognised as a proper word too. (Although I haven't bothered to check a dictionary, maybe they are.)

NotDoing, small children using regular past tenses where they should be irregular are actually doing something very clever. They have never heard these words - they are using logic to deduce what they should be if the rules were followed. So your dd should get a big gold star. grin

Ecmo Wed 09-Jul-08 19:26:29

does faff exist? I use it all the time.

stop faffing about or
It's all such a faff.

BoysAreLikeDogs Wed 09-Jul-08 19:28:23

yy Edam - The Virtuous error IIRC smile

I heart faff

Also faffling

EffiePerine Wed 09-Jul-08 19:30:05

oh yes I say glubs. Much better word.

EffiePerine Wed 09-Jul-08 19:30:46

Surely faffing is a word? You'll be telling me doodah isn't in the dictionary next angry

AllFallDown Wed 09-Jul-08 19:33:12

Glumful. I was feeling most glumful.
