I spoketo a memebr of sales staff in a self-proclaimed upmarket pop up shop today about the mis-spelling on one of their signs.

Apparently, after 5 mentions in the 2 months they've been open [disappointing], they check in the Oxford Dictionary hmm and that there are 2 ways of spelling Confectionery.

Um, yes, the right way and the wrong way you noodle.

The word 'confectionary', if that's their version, does exist, but it doesn't mean the same as 'confectionery'. You'd be interested in OED sense 4: 'Improperly used for confectionery n., meaning the confectioner's art'.
