Da. There is nothing more disheartening than seeing that a grown woman has used 'da' instead of 'the'.

There is an epidemic of people saying "bare with me" at the moment. An EPIDEMIC, I tell you.

Report
Thumbwitch · 04/08/2011 04:23

yes, and "I can't bare it - I should jolly well hope not!

Perennial - PLEASE realise that "lose" has only one o. It might sound the same as choose but it is not spelt in similar fashion - the word "loose" means "not tight".

Gah! loss of second speechmark in opening line! I wouldn't normally bother to comment but this is pedants' corner after all.

I dislike the rash of exclamation marks that pepper banal sentences on MN.

I brushed my teeth! I did the washing up! Grrrrrrrrr.

ps I am not talking about you Thumbwitch, I was composing my post before I saw yours Smile.

I've noticed a recent outbreak of "hubbies" on Mumsnet.

I'm fed up of the number of times I read the word chav on MN

I don't read huge, long paragraphs with no punctuation or capital letters.

That'll teach 'em.

Report
Thumbwitch · 04/08/2011 11:21

empire, that's ok - I know that my post required its peppering of ! because they were all proper exclamations Grin.

Quenelle - totally agree and some people get very snarky when OPs are warned that they will get fewer answers due to the lack of legibility of their post.

empirestateofmind · 04/08/2011 12:11

aubergine - I agree re hubbies. It is strange to hear it in this day and age. To me it sounds very Stepford Wives.

Report
Thumbwitch · 04/08/2011 12:26

Oh that's funny, empire - to me it conjures up some Hilda Ogden type from Lunnon, with slippers and a housecoat, curlers in her hair and a headscarf.

"Oo I've got a luvverly bit of fish for me 'ubby's tea" sort of thing. Grin

I wholeheartedly agree re: 'lol'.

I do not believe for a second that anyone is really laughing out loud because they were (for example) woken at 3 am by a squawling brat, or because their 'hubs' has put up a shelf 'for them' (to use 2 examples from my facebook feed today).

My personal favourite....is the people who....punctuate using strange little rows of full stops....to indicate some sort of structure...to their thoughts.

Too many people use "lol" like a full stop.

Report
MirandaGoshawk · 05/08/2011 23:11

Hubby - check. Far too many of those around. Why not DP/DH? Quicker and lacking in smugness.

Long paragraphs with no punctuation and i instead of a capital I - check

Can I add using txt spk in anything other than texts, the most annoying example being u instead of 'you'?

Makes people look like morons.

Report
Olifin · 06/08/2011 00:09

I am guilty of using strange little rows of full stops at times (ellipses?) to indicate train of thought.
