party games for 11 year olds

eldest d wants fun party with lots of silly games to keep them busy. any ideas suitable for indoors or out. for mid april? approx 10 girls.

The mummy game? Put them in pairs with lots of cheap loo rolls and watch them wrap one of each couple up. Or give them a pile of newspaper and some cheap masking tape and get them to design "fashion outfits" - you can do a catwalk at the end which can be very funny.

Would your daughter enjoy researching and planning the games herself?

Off hand there's pass the parcel with silly forfeits, apple bobbing, bingo, the chocolate game (kids in circle taking in turns to throw a dice. Person who gets a 6 has to dress up in silly hat, glasses whatever and cut a piece of choc from a big bar in the middle before next person to throw a 6 takes over) A treasure/scavenger hunt for in the garden? A quiz with rounds -music/tv/food/celebs etc.

I'd have a lucky dip with prizes from Claires.

after 8 race

split into 2 teams

one of each team sit on a chair, with head tilted back

put after 8 on forehead - idea is to wriggle and tip the choc from the forehead to the mouth down the face, without using your hands

once first person in the team has done it, next person in team sits down and carries on

adult helper can replace choc if it falls off

we did this at my 10 yos birthday and it went down very well!

if you do Panda's after 8 game you need to get them to try and turn the after 8 wrapper inside out without it ripping

if it's warm enough to go outside, we've had success with team games involving water outside with kids this age - obstacle course type thing involoving trasfering water from one end of the garden to the other.

or could you borrow a parachute? I do a weekly school kids club with mostly 11 year olds and they LOVE parachute games

There's the game where you have to move smarties from one plate to another by sucking them up with a straw-winner does the most in a minute

2 teams, 2 balls of string with a key or similar attached

race to get string up and down clothes - so start passing string up under top layer of clothes from ankle to neck, next team player from neck to ankle, and so on

there have been suggestions from the girls already of toilet roll dress designing, eating a hanging do-nut, watery sack race and something with a bowl of "sick" which the bush tucker trial may solve.

cereal box game

kids sit in a circle and take turns to pick up box with their teeth without puting hands/knees on ground

then tear box down so it's smaller and repeat

keep reducing the size of the box until it's little more than a rectangle of card.

something from left field, my dd did a children's theatre party play for her 9th.
her and her mates acted out a play called Princess and the Pea Soup which they rehearsed, built a set (sort of) and performed in front of the parents.
it was a real blast...and less than a tenner!

dwdoodles I'd be tempted to do an activity such as ten pin bowling or cinema or ice-skating. She only needs to invite 2-5 others, and you can do activity followed by food. If only 1 person accepts you still have a celebration. The shared activity helps focus conversation too.

Long complex treasure hunt with clues and riddles around your neighbourhood. These were very popular for girls' nineth and tenth birthdays around us, and one ended in a graveyard where the mum and older sisters had dressed as ghosts of long ago (19th century, nobody anyone was still mourning) relatives of the family whose grave the treasure hunt ended at

DD planned her own 10th birthday party, including writing out clues for various complex games.

dwdoodles a cinema / bowling with pizza or similar trip sounds much safer for your situation just in case not many turn up or the atmosphere is a bit awkward if she doesn't really know anyone well.
