prefer me to have done a seating plan,

or would you prefer to decide where to sit for yourself?

I usually do a seating plan to avoid people fumbling around but am now wondering if I'm a bit sad!

Would definitely prefer you to have done a seating plan.

Another vote for seating plan

(Try and memorise it rather than drawing a diagram if you wish to appear less sad )

No seating plan for me, but can't imagine any of my friends would do a dinner party for 12, so you are probably mixing in better circles.

Dinner for half a dozen? Sit where you like.
Any more than 6, seating plan & place names etc etc

I wouldn't expect to see a seating plan but wouldn't mind if there was.

Are they all friends who know one another?

Thanks for input girls.

Yes, they all know each other...some more than others.

It's not a formal dinner, more a slightly drunken supper outside by candlelight.

If I didn't do a seating plan I dh would slump next to his mates and talk politics for most of the night

I do seating plans because I know all my mates and who is likely to hit it off/ have something in common with who.
