what festival would an Indian family be celebrating just now?

bumped into neighbours and they were all dressed in beautiful clothes
got chatting and they told me they are celebrating a ten day festival just now and would we like to come for tea etc etc
what festival is it? was too embarrassed to ask!

This Eid, as far as I know, is a three day festival, rather than ten days. I had three pupils in my Yr 10 group today!

It was Eid last night/today, celebrating the end of Ramadan - a month of fasting for muslims. We have a public holiday today to celebrate

Diwali is the festival of lights and is coming up soon I believe.

If you don't think they are muslims, then it's possible that they are Jains, which I believe is derived from Hinduism. In which case I wouldn't take any food as they have a very strict philosophy about which foods they can eat. I'm sure if you ask her she will be delighted to tell you all about it. Have fun

if they are from india they are more likely to be hindu or sikh. though not impossible that they could be muslim. usually muslims are from pakistan. or when you say they are indian do you think they might actually be pakistani?

do you know what their surname is? or their first names? that can help identify them.

thing is though, it's a celebration so just join in and have fun!

yep, navratri. We're also going without meat.

Prob dressed up for garba, our family went tues night, but we were too tired to go, we may go friday instead.
