If you've got a load of odd socks, you could make some "party rats" - fill them with dried beans, rice lentils, etc, tie the ends with string (tails), add buttons for eyes and put a blank parcel tag on each. Get each boy to name their rat (we had lots of "smelly"s) and use them for games; we did "who can throw their rat the farthest", rat "darts" - marking a target on the ground and seeing who could get closest to the bulls-eye, etc. I'm sure there could be loads more variations on the theme! My son and his friends loved it - it was really anarchic, but my neighbour was perplexed to find a load of wet socks hanging from her tree the next day!.
