Christening party

We are having our DD christened in October and we were planning on having a meal afterwards our treat. But we have come to realise how many members of our families will be coming (from North and south, we are in midlands) and the money we would spend on a meal could pay for a party. She is being christened at 12.30pm so the party would start around 2pm. My question is firstly what do we provide there for example dj? And secondly does it have to be straight after the ceremony or could we do like a wedding and have an evening reception? I just don't know what's the 'norm'

Help! Lol

Xx

IME it would be very unusual to have an 'evening do'.
The Christening is at the Church and then guests would normally go somewhere to have a buffet. (Family home or a hall somewhere or a social club or room above a pub).
I wouldn't have a DJ.
People tend to mingle and talk. You can play some music if you want to - through Spotify or playlist you put together (or even good old CDs). Tends to be a couple of hours after the service, and not go on into the evening.

Thanks for your reply. This is what I was thinking, background music and food. My DS is 15 and was christened when he was a baby. We didn't really have an after thing it was more a gathering at the local pub! I think a buffet and Spotify on a speaker will do just fine! Thank you! X
