40th birthday day out - east Devon area

Hi,
It's my dear friends 40th and I would like to plan a nice day out for her in east Devon. We are near to sidmouth - I was thinking maybe a spa day but I don't know the spas round here. Or a nice lunch? I want it to be chilled and special for her as she has had a tough time lately so doesn't want anything too over the top. Sidmouth/Exeter - surrounding areas. All suggestions very welcome thanks! I just need inspiration
