My DD is 6 next month and wanted one of these too. They do seem expensive. No food either, although I think you can get a discount some places as part of their deal.

And the £8 teddy seems a bit inferior when you look at all the other paraphernalia in the shop!

They do a bit of a party too. (party games etc) They do at the Bluewater Shopping Centre one anyway!

DS went to his cousin's one. The kids thought it was the best thing ever. I didn't go, but it sounded as if the woman running it was very good with them, taking them through the whole process, lots of imaginative additions, stories about the bears, the whole process took quite a while. I think my SIL put a ceiling on £15 per bear as the budget and invited 4 children. I don't think they had food.
Personally I think the bears are unappealing, but there is a v wide range of accessories and outfits.

My DD had one last year for her 6th birthday. We put a ceiling price of £15 a head. The store as very accommodating, they got out a wide range of the cheaper outfits all ready for when DD and friends had stuffed their bears. They also went for a parade around the shop lifting their bear skins above their heads and shouting. The organiser then took all the bear skins off girls and hid them all over the shop and the girls had to find them. They thought this great fun! They didnt have to wait in the queue for bears to be stuffed as they were taken to the empty one, allthe time the organiser talked to the girls asking questions and encouraging them about what names they had chosen. When all bears were stuffed and girls had done the birth certificates, the organiser rang a hand bell and the whole shop stopped, she then announced that is was Directlines daughters birthday and could everyone sing happy birthday. DD was asked to stand on the counter and everyone sang, it was lovely. All the girls then signed a yellow teddy that Build a bear gave to her free and took a photo of all the girls with their bears and put it in a cardboard frame. Everyone had a great time.

The only downside was the fact there was no food, but we got around that and went to MDs.

I would thoroughly recommend it DD still talks about it now and that was 18 mths ago!

dd had one of these for a very special 5th birthday party (too many reasons to go into why)it was fab - she and the invitee's loved it.
The woman running the party did a really good job. There were lots of games to keep children occupied whilst others were making parts of their bears.
Lack of food with party was bonus for us, variety of children in group that had allergies & v.special dietry requirements. The children still talk about it now. It was pretty magic really - I think most of the girls had been past the shop or maybe in it,but hadn't actually ever had anything bought from it. It is undeniably expensive, but if you can afford it I would recommend it

fantastic for little girls. dd went to one when she was three. sh e was the youngest there. it was a fourth paryt. and was lovely. not sure about for boys though
i ended up spendiung afew extra pounds though. the mom had set the limit on ten pounds, and dd wanted a ten pound one. i let her get the talking thing, but no clothes

I think we might go for this. DDs birthday is just a couple of weeks after BD4 is due. I was looking for something fairly hassle free for myself.

We have 6 cousins who I just thought I couldn't leave out, but I might arrange to meet them at McDs later and let DD invite 3 friends from school. That would be 6 with our 3. Makes it a bit more affordable

Thing is, you then dont have to worry about a party bag as they have a great big to take home!.

We take the year 3 classes from the school I work at every year - I have to say most of the boys do seem just as enthusiastic as the girls. Each class gets a bear and this year as one of the year 3 teachers is getting married, the parents bought her a pair of bride and groom bears.
