A friend of mine has/is organising a surprise party for her dh, She's booked the hall & disco and sent out invitations which stress the importance of keeping it a secret and has given someone else's phone no. & email address as points of contact. The invitations say people need to be there for 7.30 as the birthday boy will be arriving at 8pm.

I wanted to do this for my dh, he turned 30, but it was impossible because the little friends we have in the UK all live very far from us. (We are also from South Africa) After the children was in bed, I prepared a roamantic bath with bubblebath unfortunately for him alone because I prepared a romantic dinner for two. It was wonderfull, candles, sparkling wine, just the two of us...

We did a surprise "weekend" party for my FIL, we booked a huge log cabin near us and MIL spun this whole story that the house near it was running as a hotle now and this cabin was a restuarant and he pulled up expecting a romatic dinner for 2 in a log cabin restaurant. Instead he had the whole family for the whole weekend, he still didn't twig that we had the place to ourself and were staying for about an hour after arriving.

It was easier as he is used to everyone else orgainising stuff and the cover story worked well.

Hi SanetJvv
Where in SA are you from? Where do you live now? Afrikaans or English?

Hi Sanet

Know the feeling. Also very home sick. My husband's parents have very good friends that lives in Banbury.
We are also Afrikaans.
Maybe we can visit sometime. We have a "selgroep" in Northampton. About 8 families with lots of children. We get together every 2nd weekend and eat like just our South African's can.

Weve been trying to join a selgroep for a long time now, we are part of Solihull SA gemeente, Middelande, and you? Only selgroepe near us are in Oxford, 15 members and no children, and Leamington Spa one child. I need to make contact with sel leader of Leamington Spa to find out when do they get together. Probably in the week...

Would it be rude to chat in afrikaans?
