Can any one give me some ideas on gun things I could have in there?
You know like a photo booth etc.

what about: (find all things on google)

a magic mirror
magician going round doing ticks
a big board where people write messages to your mum

best of luck

Why don’t you do a party based on her favourite things? I did this for my DH - he is a superhero geek and designed the party around this. Made it friendly as all friends have kids so we have superhero decorations, cakes, main cake also, water bottles which had superhero’s on. There was also inflatable obstacles course, soft play and a face painter. Had a cold buffet catered for to meet guests dietary preferences (vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free etc plus a lot of meat eaters!).

Music was theme tunes from superhero films and fancy dress optional.

Maybe have a real thin aboutbwht her likes are (and hates!). Pinterest is your friend here. Whatever you do I’m sure she will love. Good luck!

What sort of things is your mum in to.

Frankly, I'd be horrified with a surprise party that involved magic tricks or soft play!

I was going to say what MureenMLove said.
I'm your Mum's age or possible a bit older and would NOT want 'themes' or photobooths or any of the other stuff that is being marketed at weddings for you to spend more money these days. Personally, I'd like a good DJ, a reasonably well priced bar and a simple buffet. Other friends have had barn dances, afternoon teas, and a nice lunch. No-one (out of lots of friends turning 50) has chosen to have gimmicks or themes.
One friend at 40 went for a 'James Bond' night, which, in essence was a request to dress up in your poshest frocks.

I feel the same as BackforGood and MaureenMLove - but it depends what your mum likes.

Does she enjoy 'fun' things - has she been to a friend's party recently - what did she like / not like?

Thank god I'm not the only one! I had a good old fashioned party, in the local club, with a cheap bar and a DJ who played my kinda music! Grin. I am a woman of few needs, but music that I can belt out the words and dance to are a must any day of the week!

I would HATE a surprise party, and I am also about your mum's age.
I'd prefer a meal out in an expensive naice restaurant---- with either close family, or good friends

Thanks everyone
If she knew about this party she would have a fit haha
But I know she will enjoy it when she's there.
She's not really into anything in particular.
I have just stuck with a DJ and a nice buffet.
Oh I am doing a board full of photos of her from when she was a child till now.
I won't be pursuing a career in party planning I'm crap ! X

Yay Maureen glad your party went well (we were on a 50th birthday party thread earlier this year!)
I too had my 50th in May and hired the party space at a local Italian restaurant overlooking the beach, nice buffet and bar, dancing - I made the ultimate 80s playlist which was perfect.
One surprise was that my friends had organized a book of messages to me which was lovely and is something that I will treasure forever Smile

OP, that sounds perfect! Smile

And Tanterose, glad you had a good time and I had a guest book too! Although, I bought it myself.Grin

Actually OP, that is a nice touch and would be nice for whatever you do. I got it on Notonthehighstreet. Think it was only about tenner. You can get the cover personalised, so it's a really nice gift and keepsake.
