Teepee Sleepover Parties - Warning!!

Please avoid this company at all costs! They look legit but will take your money for your child's party and not show on the day nor refund any payment afterwards. We recently fell foul, the website looks professional and communication up until the day of party was good but it is all fake. The lady who owns this Company is Kate Smith (has used other names in past - Kate Brown) and apparantly has appeared on the TV programme Rip Off Britain for a similar scam she ran regarding children's pamper parties. Lots of negative info regarding the 'grumpy but georgeous' company on the internet but not much on the teepeesleepoverparties yet as this is the latest business (SCAM!!) to be set up.

I have just been scammed by this company too. She did deliver the good for the party however she did not come and collect them for two days. When she eventually decided to collect them
She asked me to leave them all outside, despite me saying that I would be out all day and that they would
Be unattended. She has now accused me of breaking all the teepees and sent me a £200
Bill. When I refused to pay she has filled with the small
Claims court and is taking me to court for £200 plus interest.
It’s only now that I have found out that she has scammed many other.

That's awful!, surely you can object to paying? I spoke to Trading Standards and they said they have breached/broken their contract for their non show but the address in their website is fake as I need to send formal letter first before escalating (it turns out it's a Solicitors address in Barnes Road), if you happen to have any address for these people I would love the info as I will certainly start formal proceedings against them!

I have 2 separate addresses on the court letter. Am I able to post them on here?
I have appealed it and told her we can go to court.

Umm come to think of it I'm not sure you can post that sort of info on a public site, wouldn't want you to get in any trouble!. I'm trying a different approach and contacted my bank yesterday, they seem to think they have a good chance of getting some money back from her bank (plus don't have to pay court fees trying to recover it) here's hoping!, might be worth a try if you paid anything by card? I really do hope that the court works in your favour or it just gets dropped against you. I have tried to put out warnings elsewhere on the internet in the hope no one else gets falls foul to this company!

Hi Charlietee, unfortunately I have just fallen for this scam and we were let down today. I am so cross with myself and so upset for my daughter. Are you able to share the address with me so that I can pursue this? Thanks in advance.

Hi my name is Jacqui and I am a nanny for a family in the Beckenham area. Today we were expecting a delivery of a bell tent from Teepee Sleepovers at 12 noon it is now 9 PM and we are still waiting and there are rather sad little girls wondering where their tent is.

However the lady I work for is a senior lawyer in a big London lawfirm and she is not going to let the situation go unchallenged legally so she would be very pleased if anyone who has had a problem with this company would contact her at [email protected] as she really does not want this to ever happen to another family and unlike many people she has the legal prowess at her fingertips so hopefully can put this woman out of business once and for all as it also appears as if she has other businesses offering a similar service but under different names.

Please do contact Nicola so that no other child is left unhappy on their special day.

Thanks
Jacqui

Hi Jacqui, I’m very sorry that this has happened to your charge as well. It is very upsetting. I will email Nicola. There is a face book group called Grumpy But Gorgeous Girls Pamper Party Scam which is full of people who have had the same experience as us. I think the main problem is that they are untraceable. I will repost this post on that page.

We have this company booked for a bell tent for both my daughter’s birthday parties at the end of August. I actually looked for reviews before I booked, months ago, but found very little. Having seen all your comments, I am now really worried about what will happen ... Ive sent an email to Nicola as well with the details. Does anyone have any recommendations for legit companies???

Sorry to see you have also had issues with this Company. If you have paid any thing at all by debit card you should be able to claim it back through your bank if you do not get a refund. Unfortunately I lost half my money but the half so paid on debit card (can be debit or credit card) Santander successfully managed to get a charge back for me through non receipt of services. I had to provide proof so emailed them the booking confirmation and terms and conditions which they obviously broke the contract. Hope you get your money back as this is appalling!

Why hasn’t this person been prosecuted for fraud? There seems to be a lot of evidence on other forums aswell.

I have also been scammed, just yesterday by this awful woman!

You saved me! I had literally just emailed her, but hadn't paid or reserved yet. Are there other companies you'd recommend instead? Is Kaia at JimJam Wigwam the same thing/another front for Kate, or different? Huge thanks in advance!

PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY! I booked them for my daughters party which was about 10 days ago...the communication was awful (never once answered the phone) they turned up over 4 hours late (when I already had a house full of kids) and the "unicorn theme" simply consisted of a couple of pillows and teddy's - not as it looks online. I was told that they would collect it the next day and confirm by 12 what time to expect them...again no communication and they didnt turn up - I had 5 teepees taking over my living room! Finally they turned up late afternoon the following day....highly unprofessional, stressfull, and the quality is nothing close to what is shown on the website. This was an awful experience, and I would advise everyone to avoid using them!

I can’t believe it, I have also been scammed by this woman just today. I had a call at 12:30 from ‘Danielle’ saying that Kate had asked her to call me to tell me the party I had booked for my 11 year old had been cancelled with no explanation. I have paid in full and was told that I would be getting a full refund but having read this thread I see that’s obviously not true! I’m kicking myself for not looking up reviews before now. I will email Nicola. So gutted for my daughter and can’t believe there are people doing this 😭

Hi - my sister was scammed too by this company. In early July she booked a party for both my nieces, their birthdays are 4 days apart. She was asked for a preferred arrival time and gave 12 noon. Didn't hear anything back & no show on the day. Chased by phone & email & eventually received a one liner email "we set up parties up until 6pm". No good for my sister as she wanted it for after school! She sent a email back stressing how disappointed she was. The reply was "if you're going to be horrible we won't come." And nothing since. She paid half on her debit card and half on her credit card. Her bank (Lloyds) have said they can't et her the money back and closed the case! She is still waiting on the credit card. I have seen that victims are sending details to someone called Nicola? Is this right? So sorry to read all your stories. I can't believe this woman is doing this where children are involved!

KazO23, so sorry to hear your nieces had their birthday party ruined too. Yes I have emailed Nicola ([email protected]) who has been very helpful. I am sure this woman is getting away with it because she thinks people won't pursue it for the amount of money involved but for me it is more the principle and I hate to think she is continuously upsetting kids like this. She uses a variety of different tricks as I am finding out....

Thanks Jobear80.....I know it is appalling! I have emailed Nicola too who has told me to report her for fraud. I'm not sure if the police will do anything really. I can see that she does use a variety of scams...it seems this one hit most people in July so I wonder if you just does it for a few weeks and then closes down the website and moves on. What an awful "human" being!
